Product Description

StrongArm gas charged lift supports are custom engineered and manufactured beyond industry standards to provide smooth operation and durability. The hardened chromium plated steel shaft is precision ground and polished for superior corrosion resistance and leak free sealing. The self cleaning piston assembly automatically opens during each compression cycle to keep the orifice clear of fluid contaminants and provide smoother operation and reliable performance. Most units also utilize StrongArm's patented temperature compensation module valve which ensures consistent operation even in extreme weather conditions. It does so by compensating for normal gas pressure changes caused by temperature variations. The metallic upper bushing is manufactured with bearing quality precision to provide exact fit with pistion rod and promote a long operating life.

I was amazed at the price for these lifts. They were on sale plus an extra $5 off for two, plus free shipping. I couldn't touch that price at any of the local auto parts stores for poorly made lifts.

They were very easy to install and have been working perfectly in subfreezing temperatures for over a month. The OEM lifts lasted for about 8 years and failed to hold the gate up when it was cold. I should have replaced them a couple of years ago but could not bring myself to spend the $ for a good set of lifts. These lift supports are worth it so far and if they don't work out, they were still worth a try for the price!

*Update 10/26/10*
Its been about 9 months and these lifts are still working like the day I installed them. Not disappointed!

We went through three sets of struts from another manufacturer and each set bent at the joint where it joins to the gate (body side connection was fine) within a week.

These use a substantially stronger mount for the gate side connection and work SO well. I had them installed in about five minutes and we've been VERY pleased with them. The jeep made it 13 years without needing new ones so I may not buy again but if I needed to, I would :D

This is a great replacement for my wife's Jeep Cherokee. Took 15 mins to change out with my wife holding up the tailgate. I let her snap on the bottom connection - made here feel like a hero knowing that the tailgate would not come crashing down on her / my head anymore.

If you're like me, installation wasn't all that readily apparent, but it's very easy once you figure it out.

The struts are held in on the bottom by metal clips - pop 'em out with a flathead, then unscrew the top bolts.

The new struts will just pop on the bottom, they come with metal clips already on.

The top part will rotate, so just shimmy it until it lines up with the bolts. These lifts are very strong (you will not be able to make them budge yourself) and it really helps to have someone else hold up the door nice and high to give you plenty of room.

I've just now installed them to replace my old failing OEM ones - they feel very strong and based on the other reviews here it looks like they won't be getting weaker anytime soon.

I just installed these arms in my 99 Jeep Cherokee, and they work great. They push the rear door up very well, and they have the appropriate pressure when you try to close the door. They perform exactly as they supposed to. They are also very easy to install.

Yes, this seems to be a good value for the money.

But easy?

Not if one of the retainer clips designed to keep the new strut socket on the body-mounted pivot pin is misaligned! Because you don't realize this on your first ever installation 'til you have the hatch full up, which means the broom you used to prop the hatch up has popped out, and you can't get that new strut's friggin clip to open up enough to go over the ball of the pivot pin that is mounted on the hatch coaming.

Some numby in the plant had mine rotated way way around so it woulda never opened enough!!!!!!

So, best thing to do, before you take off the old struts, is TAKE A SECOND SCREW DRIVER OR NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS AND ALIGN THE NEW CLIP SO IT IS EQUALLY PULLED BACK, WIDE OPEN FOR THAT ROUND PIVOT PIN. Then you bolt the new strut upper plate to your Cherokee, and while lifting the hatch up fully, slide the socket over the round pivot pin. Then you withdraw the screw driver or pliers holding the clip out and let it snap onto the pin to keep the strut's socket from falling off.

They say they test each one? Bunkum!

OH YEAH, AND GET A SECOND PERSON TO HOLD THE HATCH UP FOR YOU WHILE YOU WORK, UNLIKE ME WITH MY BROOM.

The minute I bolted these supports onto my 2000 Jeep Cherokee, I knew they were better than the Stabilus brand liftgate supports I received about 6 months ago. Those were such a pile of crap. I remember when I first installed them, they were WAY over pressured (probably off the shelf for 20 other makes). The Stabilus brackets looked bent into a very funny angle, so I should have known they were not going to work very long anyhow. These StrongArm supports are GREAT. The fact that the attachment to the actual liftgate uses a pin through the strut itself, does wonders. Also, the liftgate doesn't want to knock your teeth out (when I had the Stabilus struts installed) and has sort of an exponential opening speed, where it requires you to lightly lift it up until about 40% and then takes over. These are the ones to get. DO NOT PURCHASE Stabilus brand or you will be sadly disappointed. Now, a happy customer. Free shipping is a bonus. Best rate on the net here on Amazon.

Product arrived promptly, was well packaged, and installed easily. The liftgate lift was equal to or better than the manufacturer's original equipment.
