This review is from: StrongArm 4631 Porsche 944 Hood Lift Support 1983-91, Pack of 1 (Misc.)
My son and I installed these on a 1983 944. He was able to get the pins off the hood but the ball connection requires you to pry a spring clip up a little off the back of the support. A very small flat blade screwdriver works great. After getting both of the old supports off, he installed the ball end of the new supports using the same technique of opening the spring clip by lifting it slightly with the small screwdriver tip. Don't forget to protect your fender with a pad while your working up against the car.

The last part, attaching the supports to the hood is the trickiest. The new supports are too strong to compress by hand. The hood will not lift high enough to allow the pinned end of the supports to go into position for insertion of the pin. (The back corners of the hood will start digging into the windshield trim if you try to over lift the hood, and it still will not be high enough to attach the supports.

The trick is to loosen the bolts that attach the hood to the hood hinge. Mark the footprint of the bracket onto the hood before loosening the bolts, so you can get the hood back into position after you have attached the supports. Loosen and install one side at a time. After pinning a side, with the help of a partner pushing the hood down toward the hood hinge, the weight and position of the hood is enough to compress the air spring and allow the hood hinge bracket to be returned to it's previous footprint. The other partner then tightens the bolts attaching the bracket to the hood. Now you can do the other side.
