Many who have reported measuring the output of this charger, and other solar chargers, don't seem to know how to measure solar output.

I have not needed it enough to drain the battery so I can't say how long it takes to fully charge.

I have been testing several folding chargers for use camping and backpacking to keep my Smartphone charged for use as my camera, GPS, mp3 player, and phone in an emergency. This is the first panel I have found that is powerful enough to directly charge the phone at a full 1 amp rate (the same charge speed I see when I plug the phone into a wall charger). The solar cells are rated as 16% efficient, which is about three times more efficient than amorphous solar cells found in many other folding chargers. This means that the size of this solar panel unfolded is three times smaller than other panels of the same wattage. Very impressed with this panel's technical performance and love the price ($29.99 during the promotion).

Received the charger on time as stated by the company. Tested it by plugging in my phone which needed only a partial charge. It charged the phone back to full power in about an hr. I will be testing this out further when I move to our land which is off the grid and dependent on solar and wind for power. Seems like it will do the job well.

Got the item on sale at about 50% of list price. The panel charges one phone and that is about it even though the USB cable has 2 ports. Still works for me. Reason for the purchase was to be able to charge a phone while hiking. The size of the panel works for hanging off a back pack and using carabiners through the holes in the top of the panel to attach the panel to my backpack.

I bought this unit to charge the iPAD, iPhone and my Android devices while I'm at the outdoor. I tested all three of my devices and it does charge well. The iPAD charge speed is sufficient but it'll need sufficient sun light in order to properly charge. I try it on a cloudy day with dim sunlight and that did not work well. Overall, I like this devices and the pricing is great. I'm going to buy another one and keep in my emergency kit.

I got this for backpacking. It works OK and definitely prefers direct sun. In low sun, it seems to be draining my phone battery. I assumed there is a low watt cut off circuit to keep it form discharging the battery. this does not seem to be the case.

I have charged my phone a couple times on the trail (I use my phone to track my hikes). It charges pretty quickly. I have not needed it enough to drain the battery so I can't say how long it takes to fully charge. It seems to be around 15% for 30 minutes of direct sun.

It is pretty big and a bit heavier than it needs to be. I think they could have slimmed it down a few more ounces. The interface unit is a bit clunky but two USB ports is nice though I have only used one.

As a test, I left it plugged into my phone in direct, bright sunlight. I left it connected as the sun dropped over the horizon and a shadow creeped across the panels. After total darkness, I checked the phone charge and it was 100%, so I think my earlier experience might have been due to clouds passing pretty regularly causing on/off like activity.

I am happy with the unit overall but am cautious about it draining the battery. I am planning to trim the excess material to make it a bit lighter.

The good news is this charger folds up fairly small and is fairly light. It will charge many devices (albeit very slowly) even in overcast conditions. It's the only solar charger of this type I've tried that is at least semi-usable in less than bright sunlight. That's important--especially for emergency or other unplanned use when you can't always count on good weather.

The bad news is I can see how some have received DOA chargers or had them fail. They unit uses very cheap looking solar cells and I can see how they may fail either from shipping damage or even just handling. If you put this in a backpack and carried it around for a few days it might not survive. Unlike cells with glass panels and rigid frames, the soft nylon folding case doesn't provide much protection for the cells.

Many who have reported measuring the output of this charger, and other solar chargers, don't seem to know how to measure solar output. You can't just measure the voltage with no load and measure the current into the near short circuit of a DMM as neither is realistic. Instead, you have to measure the voltage and current while it's operating with a realistic load. Measured in this way, this charger does a respectable job for its size and weight.

At this price they must be shipping out returns or defects. Mine came with scratches all over the solar panel and the solder joints between the cells were peeled up and not touching so it does nothing. No voltage at all since the circuit isn't complete. If it was someone else's return shame on them for not checking it. If it was a manufacturing defect then it's about standard for Chinese junk. Going back 2 hours after I got it.

After being contacted by Nika they sent me out a new unit free of charge. I was gone on vacation and took my new charger Solar Joos Orange Portable Solar Charger which worked great. Got home and opened up my returned charger from Strong Volt and it's worse than the first one. Even more broken solder joints and once again no voltage even in direct sunlight. You would think after offering to replace the defective one they would make sure the new one works. Nope. Sorry but I don't give 3rd chances. Spend the extra money and get the Joos charger. It's a much better product and worth the money.

I had my electronics guy look at it and he gave it back fixed. He had to re-solder the board but it does charge nicely now. Not something anyone could do at home though. Great design. Poor quality control. I would buy it again though.
