"A moving demonstration of how strength of mind and character helped one man stand tall despite the loss of his legs."

Kirkus

About the Author

Jeff Bauman was an ordinary twenty-seven year old, with a job, a girlfriend and a love of sports, when a bomb took both his legs near the Boston Marathon finish line. A famous photograph taken at the scene, and his vital role in identifying the bomber from his intensive care hospital bed, made him the face of the tragedy, but it is his determination, humor and positive attitude that has inspired millions. Jeff Bauman lives in the Boston suburb of Chelmsford, Massachusetts. www.jeffbaumanstrong.com.

Bret Witter has co-authored six New York Times bestsellers. His books have been translated into more than thirty languages and have sold more than two million copies worldwide. He lives in Decatur, Georgia. www.bretwitter.com.

This is the amazing story behind "that picture" that we all saw on that awful day of the young man with his legs blown off by a bomb. I have no connection to the Boston Marathon or even to Boston, but like millions of others, i'm sure, i was heartbroken by the event and captivated particularly by Jeff and the hero Carlos who saved his life. (The story of Carlos is also heartbreaking). This book is written in a charming, easy style. You feel you know Jeff while reading this. I'm writing this review on the off chance that he himself will read his reviews here on Amazon. He is struggling to understand why everyone thinks he is a "hero". I have often thought about why we make heroes out of victims of violence and terrorism, in particular. While reading his book, it came to me. They are heroes because the bombers are targeting all of us. He could have been my son, or husband. Any of them could have been our friends, wives or children. Any of us could have been these victims. Jeff represents the thousands or millions of people who could have been in his place instead. He and the other injured and dead took the brunt of the assault. He represents us all. He and the others suffered in our place, that makes him a hero. This is a book that gave me goose bumps, made me laugh, made me cry and left me feeling in awe.

What a great book. Jeff is your average person..who lived an average life. His story about his life before, after and AT The Boston Marathon will send chills down your spine. What an amazing person, with an amazing personality and an incredible ability to tell his story. He's very humble.. doesn't like to take credit for being a hero, but he is! He was the ONLY ONE that stared the bomber down and thought there was something off about him. He saw the backpack, he was about to move to another spot to view the marathon but then the unthinkable happened.

One of the best books I have ever read. Boston is Bauman Strong!

You just never know when a life changing moment is going to happen. Jeff was among thousands of people, cheering on a loved one and suddenly his life changes. Stronger is not a literary masterpiece and no pultizer prize will be won but who cares -- as that was not the intention. Personally, I couldn't help but think of wife because I've done a few marathons and pictured her at the finish line waiting for me to complete a race. Bottom line -- it could have been anyone of us. Mr. Bauman takes the reader on the whole ride -- a glimpse of life before the marathon, his continued recovery, his mindset and challenges and the nightmares that will likely never go away. To Jeff's credit, he references other victims and does a credible job of mentioning those who have helped him. I've got to tell you when Jeff gave a brief background on Carlos (the man who scooped him up and put him in a wheelchair), I got chills --talk a about heroes, I really hope I have a chance to meet him one day. Yes the whole incident is unfortunate but when I read Stronger I came away with tremendous pride that I am an American, The amount of support that Jeff has received is short of unbelieveable. The red, white and blue true colors have been clearly on display. Also, Jeff's family and friends are beautiful people - this would be totally impossible to survive without a strong support system. Finally, I just saw on TV that Erin (or E as Jeff refers to her) is pregnant and they are getting married. Jeff, I know you know how damn lucky you are to have such a Strong woman!!! Yes, I'm giving this one 5 stars for a couple of reasons: 1) it read it very quickly which means I couldn't put it down and 2) stirred up some emotion in my 52 year old cynical self.

I couldn't put this book down. I bought it on 11:00AM on a Thursday and was done by 12:00 the next day. Jeff is an inspiration and true hero to all who experience traumatic and life changing events. His courage, fortitude and bravery is clear once you have read this book. A moment on the news, a brief article in a magazine ....often we never know the 'behind the scenes' of what happens to those who are caught in life changing history. The trials and triumphs...its all here. This book is an absolute must read.

If you read only one book by a survivor of the Boston Marathon Bombing, make it this book. It is rare that I cannot 'put a book down", but you will find yourself riveted to this story. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The writing style is such that you truly feel as if you are conversing with Jeff yourself. His description of the day of the bombing and the life-altering challenges he faced as a result of his injuries, and still faces today, will leave you forever impacted by his story. He credits the heroes, his family, friends and countless supporters and well-wishers who did not even know him prior to this tragedy as instrumental in his recovery. His extreme courage and relentless determination to face the pain and struggles to recover are things I will never forget.

I've been following jeff bauman since the day of the bombing. Out of all the victims, I felt most drawn to him. This is an amazing book! Buy it and support this young man who's been through hell and back.
