Editorial Reviews

Stronger is the multiple GRAMMY® Award-nominated R&B superstar s sixth solo album. Tank's music and spirit stand Stronger than ever now, and he s encouraging his fans to become Stronger mentally, emotionally and physically with him. "I want to show people it's okay to have fun again," he concludes. "It's okay to dance and run around. Cut loose. R&B is all about that. It's music for all feelings and seasons. It's there for you when you want to feel great. I hope everybody can make some fantastic memories to this album."

Wow Tank. After the side project TGT, and its sex soaked songs, it was hard to know what to expect with his new album. I prayed that he would not be afraid to write a record reflecting personal growth and employ a more mature, less electronic musical background. Tank, you did it!
Tank has a taken a quantum leap forward on his new album Stronger. With music industry pressure to write vapid, love-`em and leave' em songs that don't go over the head of the fast food crowd, Tank has opted to write about the challenge of commitment. Half of the songs show a man who, after perhaps playing the field and playing with many hearts, has asked himself, `Can I grow beyond my old self?' Very appropriate for a man at his age and place in life. "If that's what it takes," "Thanking You," "Stronger," "Same way", "Hope this Makes you Love me" are all winners reflecting a man willing to grow and commit even if that means making changes.
As a bonus, Tank doesn't forget to make us dance. "You're My Star" is Tank rejoicing in having found "the one." "Dance with me, " "I Gotta Have It," "Nobody Better" are other invitations to dance, but the slower, more introspective songs are where Tank shines on this album. If an artist does not risk showing growth, despite industry pressure to `stay the same', that artist suffers.
"Stronger" is the next, logical progression of a man who is maturing.

By the time Durrell "Tank" Babbs signed to Atlantic Records in early 2010, he was a decade long veteran with a few albums under his belt. Formerly signed to Barry Hankerson's now-defunct Blackground Records, he released 2001's "Force Of Nature", followed up by 2002's "One Man" and almost quitting music before releasing 2007's "Sex, Love & Pain". While he has made strides in the recording industry, his name often went unmentioned with other R&B singer-songwriters- even while working behind the scenes. He addressed his frustration with the issue on the dark and moody mixtape "Diary Of A Mad Man"- specifically on the song "Underrated", where he bemoaned the fact that he wasn't being recognized the same way as his peers. Part of the problem was that people paid more attention to his looks and physique than they did to his songwriting and production skills- for which he would lend to the likes of Toni Estes, Dave Hollister and Chris Brown. Another part was his dramatic about face change to sing more about sex than love when he moved to Atlantic. After the release of "This Is How I Feel", he teamed up with Tyrese and Ginuwine for the much talked about TGT album "Three Kings" in 2013. Despite the success of that union, he felt a little uninspired- that was until he listened to Justin Timberlake's return to music "The 20/20 Experience". That record lit a fire under Tank and the end result is his new album "Stronger".

He decided to make an album that paid tribute to the dance music and electro-funk of yesteryear- complete with live instrumentation, a horn section and an orchestra. He also shifted his focus back to singing from the heart and writing great songs.

Although I've always been a Tank fan, I've never purchased one of his albums. However, I recently saw him in concert and gained a new appreciation for him, which caused me to purchase his new album Stronger. The lead single off of Stronger, You're My Star, is my jam right now. The entire album is excellent all the way through. If you love R&B, great lyrics, great vocals and great instrumentality, you will love this album. I think Tank has finally found his musical identity and I'm so excited for him. I am a true R&B fan, and although I love Chris Brown and the like, I just can't take some of the younger generation's lyrics, which I often find very offensive and degrading (especially to women), and downright pornographic. Many of today's young male artist only sing about sex (and the raunchier the better). It's so nice to hear a man sing about love, romance, and self introspection. This album definitely reflects a maturity and a range that a man of Tank's age, talent and stature in the industry, should have. The album effectively and artfully salutes such greats as Michael Jackson, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, and Prince, and it does so in a way that is respectful and innovative, and that shows that Tank has studied the greats and has been well schooled. If Tank keeps putting out music like this, he won't remain underrated for much longer. And the icing on the cake is that he's FINE too . . . Pleasing to the eye and to the ear!

I have purchased every Tank CD in the past. IMHO this is the worst. I only liked one song on the first play through and three by the fifth play. I hate purchasing a CD that has to grow on me. I wish this was more like the TGT project at least on there he sang his a** off. Still a Tank fan just not feeling this CD.
