A soon to be classic,

Congrats to the author on such a fantastic, long overdue book!! This is the best book I know of available on Strongman training. Athletes of all walks are beginning to realize that strongman training is useful to virtually all strength athletes because its real-world strength makes everyone more functionally strong (not theoretically strong, like swiss ball crunches), so it's not limited to just strongman competitors. If you want to broaden your horizons for your strength sport check it out. Julie Havelka is an extrardinarily strong competitor, and she definately knows her stuff, this book gives an insider's insight on the sport, covers all events and how to perfom them properly, grip training, and tons of other useful info. If you are interested in Strongman competition or this style of training you need this book. The only dislike I have about this book is the unlaminated cover, it was not the most durable choice, which is probably partly why mine came in torn...however don't let that deter, this is a 5 star book, hands down!!

Excellent Resource and Training Guide,
By Maureen Jeanson "Squeaky Gourmet" (Seacoast, NH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Strongman Book 600 Pages Titled Personal Best Powerlifting, Strongman, Bodybuilding, Weight lifting (Misc.)
This is a fantastic book for anyone wishing to venture into the sport of Strongman OR if you just want to be really strong. I love how she explains what REAL functional fitness is as opposed to the "trend" of balance boards and juggling. Julie offers great tips and precautions to get you well on your way to competing.
Her nutrition advice is spot on and I appreciated her encouragement to find what is right for your own body and not some set limit established by an organized body who know nothing about your own unique metabolism. Her ability to explain how to take gym movements and apply them to train is very helpful if you are not able to find the right gym to work in the different aspects like tire flips and Atlas stones. Julie is also a very supportive individual who answered my emails and even offered constructive criticism on a video. I am THRILLED with my purchase and look forward to earning my way thru the Strongman meets in my area! Thanks Julie!

Great book... Lots and lots of information, training tips, samples and so on. Even though it's 600+ pages it's easy to read and surprisingly quick. It's a reference I'll be returning to for sure. Loved it!
