5.0 out of 5 stars Great for anyone who wants in-depth Bible Study
There are so many different ways this book can be helpful. It's great for anyone who wants to find a scripture passage but can only remember a few words from the passage or wants to compare how a certain word is used in different places in the Bible. You don't have to rely on a minister or other Bible scholar, you can find answers for yourself. I've found it most...

3.0 out of 5 stars Exhaustive, yet limited
This concordance is extremely valuable and an excellent concordance...but only for the King James Version. Every word in the KJV is listed with the sentence it is found in, accompanied with the biblical passage it is found in. I also appreciate the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek dictionary in the back of the book, however, the definitions are all lumped together without any...

There are so many different ways this book can be helpful. It's great for anyone who wants to find a scripture passage but can only remember a few words from the passage or wants to compare how a certain word is used in different places in the Bible. You don't have to rely on a minister or other Bible scholar, you can find answers for yourself. I've found it most helpful when translating from Hebrew and Greek using the Hebrew and Greek dictionaries in the back. They actually make it possible to do some analysis of the Bible in the original languages without knowing Hebrew or Greek. I would recommend the exhaustive concordance over the concise one because there really isn't that much of a difference in price, and the exhaustive concordance has a lot more to offer. Of course, the concordance is based on the King James Version, but I've found that only really matters when you're using the concordance to help with translation.

Well I must say I was real impress with the organization of the information and material in this book.
Regarding new and old editions:
I must caution you that Amazon. com has 2 editions of this book and they are both listed under the same editorial and customer reviews which could confuse you and have you buying the wrong edition. Let me spell out the difference here. The New Stong's Exhaustive Concordance Limited, Deluxe Edition is an old edition. If you want the modern edition of this same book it's listed under amazon.com as The New Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible: Classic Edition. The difference that I see is that the older version is listed as Deluxe Edition and the New version as Classical Edition. Another way of telling the difference between the 2 editions is by looking at the picture of the book if one is provided. The newer edition is light brown w/ a little red and looks modern while the older edition is just a reddish color w/ Gold color writing. The new addition is more like a revised copy of the old one.

Regarding the content of book:
This concordance is based on the King James Version bible but also has modern words used in other english version bibles as well but it is more for the King James version to my opinion. This book is excellent because it has every word listed along w/ all of their occurrences in the bible and the Hebrew and Greek words they comes from. We all know that some words can have more than one meaning and one can only determine which meaning a word is implyinh by looking at the context the word is in. This book already acknowledges this by already providing the correct definition of each word in it's context. This book has a Hebrew/Aramaic and Greek dictionary, all Laws are listed, scales and weights listed, an outline of Christ's life and works, a topical index, Strong's number system, and a few more items.

There is a comment about this book that I've seen that some of Greek definitions in this book are based more on Classical Greek than Koine. (Koine: Greek dialect spoken during New Testament times and would be more likely used by the New Testament writers.) Other than that this book is excellent and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to enrich their knowledge of the bible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book as long as you don't take it too far, February 25, 2003

Strong's is a good reference to words in the Bible. Every word in the Bible is indexed. Also includes Hebrew and Greek dictionaries that have some very good information on derivations. If you are a student of Greek or Hebrew as I am, I can tell you that having these derivations is a great aid in memorizing vocabulary, which is the hardest part of language learning for me. Anything that can make it easier is a great blessing.

It is also very useful for the general student of the Bible. It provides definitions and cross-references of all word usages. The only thing that's a little hard to use is the "little words" listing - words like "the", "in", etc. They are listed separately, and that was done because of space reasons. My only gripe is in some of the words they included in this list, for example, "in". As a preposition I would consider that to be a pretty important word, and to relegate it to the hard-to-use brief index rather than the easy-to-use main concordance makes it much more difficult on us.

The other thing is that serious students of Greek and Hebrew will want to have a more scholarly reference. Strong's is not considered really scholarly by many, and I must admit that they do things that I wish they wouldn't (for example, they don't differentiate between different forms of words, they jump lump them all together). Serious students of the original languages will want something more. But, note that I say "in addition to": I still like Strong's since it's classic, and is helpful to me in general Bible study as well as detailed language study.

For the price (or even price-per-pound: this sucker weighs a ton!), it is an outstanding value.

I own a Strong's Concordance, and have proven it's usefulness time and time again. This reference will allow you to find virtually any elusive verse that you may search for. This book also allows you to check the definitions of words in their origional Hebrew and Greek meanings in context of the specified verse!

I had no idea such magical things existed! Strong's Concordance is an essential tool in any academic study of the Bible. The Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic dictionaries allow one a glimpse of the hurdles translators had to navigate in wrestling with this text. I recommend this for anyone working with the Bible or with any text with densely packed biblical allusions, such as Milton, Shakespeare or T.S. Eliot, among countless others.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Truth will set you Free!!!, October 3, 2000
By A Customer
This book is the most outstanding piece of literature ever composed. The Strong's Concordance allows the reader to refer back to the Hebrew, Chaldea, and Greek languages. The book is used exactly like a dictionary. Just look up the word and passage of interest, and with the number provided beside it turn to either the Hebrew or Greek section, depending of which book you are studying, and see what it means in the native language.

By breaking down the word and possessing its orginial meaning, the reader can get a better understanding from God's word.

If you are serious in studying God's word, then this is a must have study tool that must be added to your library immediately.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Your Bible Study Library, March 8, 2004

This is the best of the best when it comes to Bible Tools. This concordance is probably one of the better concordances out there. The Greek and Hebrew Dictionaries are excellent for getting a basic gist of the languages, however, there is a case that the definitions are based on a classical, not necessarily koine Greek.

The Hebrew is influenced by the Massoretic text. This book has everyword of the Bible listed and the Greek and Hebrew words they come from.

The numbering systems work well to help you be able to find the Greek and Hebrew quickly.

I think this is great as a home study tool. It is not good for a travel type concordance. If you are a serious Bible student wanting to study on the road, then Cruden's concordance in paperback is a good tool to supplement a concordance at the back of your Bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Depth!!, October 27, 2002

Strong's Concordance is an absolute gold mine. In searching for the riches that God's word has to offer, there is no greater dictionary or lexicon better than Strong's. This concordance and dictionary helps the diligent student to separate identical words in the same context that may have different Hebrew and Greek meanings. In cross referencing, it aids the student in defining identical words that may have a different meaning based on the particular passage of scripture. There could be one word that we are familiar with in English that may have five different Hebrew or Greek translations. Strong's does an excellent job pointing the reader to the correct Hebrew/Greek interpretation whereby he or she can then search the English definition to add clarity. Preachers and teachers are encouraged to own and use this powerful tool for studying the word of God. I highly recommend this book for anyone who would desire to know what God determined that we should know in the original language. It will change your life completely. Strong's Concordance is a must have for your Biblical library. Kudos!

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance is a "must have" reference for the serious student of the Bible. The thumb index system makes this an easy to use reference to locate any word . The addition of the Hebrew and Greek Dictionary offers some light to the original text meaning and also helps when doing a word study

I was very impressed by this book. The Hebrew and Greek dictionaries are quite complete and in depth. Also all of the Hebrew laws, Weights and measures are listed, along with the teachings of Christ listed by subject. The main concordance is beyond exhaustive and I easily found any suject I was looking for.
I highly recommend this book for students of the bible, pastors or just simply anyone that would like to study God's word on a more in depth basis. It's beyond exhaustive by far.
