Structural Systems: ARE Sample Problems and Practice Exam (Architect Registration Exam)

PROS
I like how there are sample problems with answers and complete solutions that come right after it. Earlier versions had answers written at the back and was a hassle to look up each time. Then the other half of the book is a practice vignette and a Mock Exam where the solutions are hidden.
CONS
My major problem though is that there are a lot of errors in this book, in some sample problems the solution/explanation are different from the multiple choice answer. I often find myself go huh in these examples. They should just call it The UNEDITED Version.

I am disappointed as it was a promising product.

Book was alright, not as helpful as the Kaplan book or Thaddeus. The vendor I bought it from was awesome and sent it priority just to make sure I had it in time for the exam!

okay, it's kind of expensive, but it worked pretty well for me, and I passed the first time (ARE 4.0, Struct. Systems). I was only getting about 70% right on these practice quetsions, btw- so I would say they are hard enough. They are more math-intensive than the actual exam, I would say.

I told myself I would just by the SS Sample Problems, then wing it after that, but once I took the exam I changed my mind. I'll probably buy most of these. The exams are tough and these problems help find your weaknesses.

Next in line of a great tool for review for the ARE exam. These books will get you ready for the MC portion of the test(s) and are a good primer for the graphic part as well.

The textbook is good and the reference materail very consized and well simplified to study. The references to the IBC code are minimum and in general the book seems to be overprized for the content and number of pages. It would be good to make it more affordable and include more specific tables and graphics from IBC, that is the least you would expect for the advertised reference to IBC.
