1.0 out of 5 stars Whatever you do, don't read this book, March 14, 2011

There must be a reason why a book that has never been out of print for 36 years and sold 20,000 copies has apparently never been read by anyone except myself. I doubt whether even Jonathan Culler himself has read it.

The terrible thought has indeed occurred to me that there may be a curse on this book so that any one who attempts to read it dies as a result. In view of this terrifying thought, the most "helpful" thing I can say about this book is: whatever you do, do not read it as it might be the last thing you ever do.

Then again, perhaps it is only read by people who have been told they have little time left to live and who tell themselves: if there's ONE thing I MUST do before I die, apart from hang-gliding over the Grand Canyon, it is to read Jonathan Culler's Structuralist Poetics. Doubt whether I'll have time to review it ...

However, I must end this review here - I fancy a bit of hang-gliding - I'll go see if my glider is still in the garage ...
