Book Description

January 1990
Since structure-borne sound plays an important role in noise control, material testing and machine diagnosis, the relevant properties of the most important elements of a construction (plates, beams and shells) are investigated. Measurement techniques, equations of motion, formulas for wave speeds, resonance frequencies, impedances, transmission coefficients etc. are given. The different damping mechanisms and the radiation properties are treated. The statistical energy analysis (SEA) is also presented. This new edition has been enlarged to include also waves on orthotropic plates, and the vibration and radiation of cylindrical shells.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A&V WWWVL Review: If your activities involve analytical computations for structureborne sound, then this book will become a much loved companion. It will be dog-eared and filled with 3M Post-it tabs in no time. As with many of these specialized books, the price is dear, but just think of how long it would take you to derive all the theory on your own! --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

This very comprehensive book is well explained and detailed, from the basic sound propagation formulae to control room treatment. It is also useful in our acoustic consulting activities and technical suport for solutions, as "rain on the roof noise" and "foot-fall noise" at residential and business buildings

5.0 out of 5 stars Vibrations from wave mechanics point of view, December 5, 2005
This is the best book for understanding the vibrations of structures from the wave propagation point of view. The authors are leaders in this field of research for 40 years. The book is easily accessable to an engineer with a minumum background in this field(an undergraduate course in vibrations & an introductory course on acoustics). There is no other book available in this field. Just buy it if you are working in the field of vibrations/structural acoustics.
