5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent background and overview, February 27, 2006

This review is from: The Structure of English: Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology (Paperback)
About ten years ago I went to Japan to teach English at a well-known high school (the alma mater of Admiral Yamamoto.) This book turned out to be one of the most helpful guides I took along. It helped me to think about the phonetics of English from a purely empirical stand-point. Instead of simply trying to get my students to mimic pronunciation, I was able to explain to them the physiology behind the L and the R. Good stuff. Tom is an excellent teacher and that comes through clearly in this book.
