5.0 out of 5 stars The second edition is even better than the first, August 20, 2005
This review is from: Nail Structure and Product Chemistry (Paperback)
Although some of the information is the same as in the first edition, it is packed with information that is not usually included in the Nails textbooks. Again, it explains everything in plain language, and some of the items are updated. I have incorporate the information from the first text into my lectures at school since it helps the students to understand exactly what I am talking about. I am now adding information from the second edition to update my lectures!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you only have one nail textbook, this is the one you should own, October 24, 2005
By
This review is from: Nail Structure and Product Chemistry (Paperback)
Mr. Schoon has greatly expounded upon his first edition of this excellent text. Content has nearly doubled, and he has included not only standard topics such as nail anatomy, adhesives, and product chemistry (which are vital for any nail technician to understand), but he has also added chapters such as "The Safe Salon" and "The Healthy Salon," among others. This new text includes great color photos. This text, set in a story format, includes a "Fast Track" which highlights the important facts of each chapter, as well as "Review Questions." Mr. Schoon's down-to-earth writing makes the most intimidating topics easy to understand. This book is an outstanding resource for nail technician and instructor.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have resource for nail technicians..., October 9, 2005

Debbie Doerrlamm (Ronkonkoma, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nail Structure and Product Chemistry (Paperback)
Everything you ever wanted to know and more about the nail and how enhancement products interact with it. Every nail technician should own this reference guide and read it not just once but over and over. The material offered is top notch, clear and easy to understand. The information is non-product specific, so it does not matter what brand you use. Even if you own the original Nail Structure and Product Chemistry (1996) you NEED to own this one also. This new volume takes the education of nails to an entirely new level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really a Great Textbook for Cosmetic Science or to be a Nail Technician, January 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nail Structure and Product Chemistry (Paperback)
I recently joined a lab where I deal with nail formulary. This book gave a really good background on the structure of nails. It went through what nails are made of, the anatomy of nails and even nail diseases. If you are studying to be a nail technician this book would be really helpful as well. In terms of product chemistry it was really helpful because they went over basic nail formulary that included solvents, film formers and plasticizers. Also for the price it is really good. This book is not a difficult read. It is presented in a manner that is very understandable. Also the book is lightweight so it is portable. This book also goes into great detail. Usually you can only get if you are lucky a chapter on nails and not a whole book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can you call yourself a professional if you don't own this book?, March 31, 2010
This review is from: Nail Structure and Product Chemistry (Paperback)
Can you call yourself a professional if you don't own this book? It is full of information that is beneficial to the nail professional and therefore beneficial to the nail client. The better educated the industry becomes, the higher the standards could be. I recommend this book to everyone in any class whether it is a nail student or a seasoned nail professional, I dare you to read it and not learn anything! Doug has an amazing gift of understanding how to make the science of the nail and nail products easy and interesting for those of us without degrees in science. There is so much misinformation and misunderstanding out there that could easily be eliminated or corrected if this book was owned and read by anyone that did nails. So if you call yourself a nail professional, I challenge you to own this book and keep the myths and half truths from spreading, at least from your salon!!
