YA--Beginning with the Greeks, Halpern presents a basic overview of the history of astronomy leading up to and covering how scientists currently view the organization of the universe and its future. Concise and accessible, the information is organized and carefully constructed for nonexperts. Charts, photographs, illustrations, and inserts help to clarify details and textual explanations. Each chapter builds upon the previous one, so a knowledgeable understanding of the subject grows steadily as readers progress through the pages. Unfortunately, sources are not listed. Young adults interested in astronomy and theories about the universe and not seeking in-depth explanations and the usual accompanying mathematical calculations will find this book exactly what they want.

About the Author
Physicist and writer Paul Halpern is the author of twelve popular science books, exploring the subjects of space, time, extrasolar planets, particle physics, higher dimensions and cosmology. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Fulbright Scholarship and an Athenaeum Literary Award. His most recent book examines the Large Hadron Collider and the quest for the fundamental particles of the universe.
