3.0 out of 5 stars A classic that changed the world, June 30, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This book was the first book to describe Structured Design and remains the most thorough. It improved the way thousands of people designed software. The majority of the concepts that today make up object oriented design are addressed in this book. These include coupling, cohesion, factoring and encapsulation (called information clusters here). The authors Ed Yourdon and Larry Constantine are exellent writers, but this, one of their earliest books, is far from their best work. I still have and occasionally refer to my copy for this book. However, the best book on this subject is The Practical Guide To Structured Systems Design by Meilir Page-Jones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good content, even if it is old, October 4, 2009

This review is from: Structured Design: Fundamentals of a Discipline of Computer Program and Systems Design (Paperback)
I bought this book for a specific presentation I needed to do at work. People get wrapped up in technology, and forget the basic ideas put forth for structured decomposition and design are the basis that most all of todays latest and greatest ideas are based on.

I suggest reading this book for anyone intrested in designing reliable, maintainable programs.

Also, I bought this book used. It was well worn, but I don't mind. I saved a lot of money, and the words inside are the same on an expensive book, or on a cheap book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yourdon and Structured Design., April 30, 2011

This review is from: Structured Design: Fundamentals of a Discipline of Computer Program and Systems Design (Paperback)
As a retired CIS professor and computer professional, Ed Yourdon and DeMarco were the gurus decades ago in structured techniques -including Data Flow Diagrams. This book is a classic!
