Editorial Reviews

Review

"This is a good text, and I think far outstrips many competing texts. I always recommend my students buy this text for the course and to use it in the future as a well-illustrated text that deals with most of the key issues and goes beyond to show how the principles of structural design are incorporated into practice." — Harry Giles, University of Michigan

"It is overall a very interesting text, addressing architecture students and design issues that go beyond stress and strain. It deals with typology, morphology, and configuration, which few texts are able to do. In this sense it spans engineering and architecture very well. The illustrations are great, and they are exactly what they should be in a book that is about principles. They are clear, well-drawn, well related to the text." — Michele Chiuini, Ball State University

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of structural systems, December 22, 2009
This review is from: Structures (6th Edition) (Hardcover)
This book is intended for architects but structural engineers will find it useful to see how structural theory is applied. The book focuses on ideas rather than hand calculational methods. It should be viewed within that context. You will not learn structural engineering from this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its a structures book for architects or future-architects, August 31, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Structures (6th Edition) (Hardcover)
The book is a little poorly written, but makes attempts to explain things with a ton of graphics which is helpful. The structural engineer teaching my Structures 2 course even commented that the book is good for an architect's reference but isn't always correct and does not include "real word" situations which he wants to mix in with the curriculum. Its funny to hear that because some of the book's educational reviewers/editors are practicing structural engineers that teach at notable schools such as MIT, Harvard and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
