About the Author
Messoud Efendiev is Professor of Mathematics and Head of the Department of Dynamical Systems in the Institute of Biomathematics and Biometry in the Helmholtz Center, Munich. He is a mathematician with broad interests and has contributed significant results in several different fields in mathematics, such as, topological analysis in partial differential equations, nonlinear boundary value problems related to pseudodifferential operators, complex analysis, variational methods in mechanics and physics, and infinite dimensional dynamical systems arising in biology and the life sciences. One of his main interests is Topological Methods in Nonlinear Analysis with applications to various problems arising in mathematical physics, the topic of this monograph. He is the author of more than 150 papers and Conference proceedings, published in leading mathematical journals. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of 6 leading international journals. His research has been acknowledged by awards from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany), the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science, and the Otto Monsted Foundation (Denmark). He is frequent plenary speaker in many International Conferences and has, on numerous occasions, presented a series of lectures, at leading universities in the world, on the topics mentioned above.
