Rare Insight into Mourning, Beautifully Written,
By Book Lover (Bethesda, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Struggle Against Mourning (Hardcover)
This is a penetrating study of the universal struggle against mourning, both healthy and maladaptive. A full array of instances is examined including both societal and individual. Clinical psychoanalytic work is presented in great detail with rare emotional immediacy. Also included is the applied analytic study of the hero of "Europa, Europa," attending to the human resiliance for survival in the face of the overwhelming trauma, the Nazi horror.
This work reads at times like great literature not merely because of Kogan's authorial talents but, as importantly, because of her rare willingness and ability to expose her own engagement in the clinical work. It is a valuable work of tremendous power that compels emotional engagement from the reader. |
