THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES WILL ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF!,
By scott rouse (south haven michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Struggle Continues (Audio CD)
I have been a link 80 fan/friend for years and was always partial to the vocal stylings of nick traina (former link 80 singer who passed away 1997). i am glad to inform the world that instead of distroying this band, there hardships only made them stronger and therefore ROCK WAY HARDER! The prime tracks from "THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES" are time for a change, addiction, intolerance, resist and there is also a emotional track about nick traina called unbroken. This disc is a must for any link 80 fan and is a must look into for anybody else

Newer Link 80 without Nick, but still incredible,
By Mike Golen (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Struggle Continues (Audio CD)
This is a great album. I do favor 17 Reasons more, but without Nicks singing I think this album still delivers. Great horn lines, fast drumming, furious guitar riffs... its basically the Link 80 I've always known and loved, just a new singer. It was great to hear a new version of Nowhere Fast, too. If you're a Link 80 fan or a fan of ska-core of ska-punk in gerneral, pick this up, along with 17 Reasons, you wont regret it. My favorites include Addiction, Intolerance, My Girl, Evil Twin, and Resist in G Minor.

Missing Nick 80,
By Nick Danger (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Struggle Continues (Audio CD)
I got to see Link 80 about two months before Nick died. They were my favorite band at the time, spewing energy to fuel a young punk-rocker's fire. This new album seems to lack the urgency of 17 REASONS. The song writing (especially the horn-lines) has come a long way, but without Nick 80's gritty voice, the energy level is a little low. Now, don't get me wrong. This is an awesome album. Ad it does rock out. Any Link 80 fan should get this album. Just don't expect the Link 80 of old. My personal favorites are the furious INTOLERANCE, the lighthearted NOTHING NEW, and MY GIRL featuring Mike "Bruce Lee" Park.

The Struggle Continues,

this is a great new album by one of the best ska/punk bands out there. it is a different sound from their 2 previous cds, KILLING KATIE and 17 REASONS, but it gets the job done. it features a new lead singer who brings a lot of energy to this album. if you like listening to good music then I would recommend this or any of Link 80's other albums.

"The Struggle Continues"... An Excellent New Beginning,
By js (chicago,il) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Struggle Continues (Audio CD)
This a great new record by a band who has overcome great odds. The album has a new sound, but what can you expect from a band who has lost and replaced half of its members. The album's new sound is a lot harder and the lyrics are a departure from those of Nick Traina. Nick's lyrics were great and so are the new singer's, Ryan Noble, but Nick's lyrics generally possessed an "against the rest" attitude and were about fighting against oppressive forces and those who brought conflict to life. The new singer's lyrics are completely different in the sense that they concern inner struggles and battles which are fought within. The new album is great and more people would appreciate it if they stopped expecting Ryan to be Nick. Nick wrote some of my favorite songs, but Ryan is a different person and therefore has different style. I miss Nick too, but before his death he had moved on and started Knowledge. Nick had a talent that could be compared to no one else's and it's a shame that it had to come to such a sad end. Just like Nick moved on, Link 80 has progressed musically. Their sound, just like the band members themselves, has matured and developed into what it is. It is an awesome cd and everyone would be able to enjoy it more if they would just stop expecting the same 17 Reasons sound and try to listen and appreciate the record for what it is.

This CD is really good. I saw these guys play with Ryan and I was blown away. They are so energetic when they play live! Also, the quality of the music is excellent. If you like very fast punk with some ska then you'll love this cd. RIP Nick!

R.I.P.,

"The struggle continues" is Link 80s first full-length since Nick Traina (the bands former vocalist) committed suicide. the cd still sounds good, but there are definetly more hardcore than ska songs on it. "Addiction", and "Nothing New" are my favorites on the album but it also has a good cover of "Nowhere Fast" as the hidden track. all in all the cd is quality, buy i preferred 17 reasons to the struggle continues.

Very Powerfull & Strong Message,
By Elizabeth Saunders (Auora, CO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Struggle Continues (Audio CD)
This is Link 80's second full legnth release after their former lead singer Nick Traina committed suicide because of depression. This cd has many qualities. For one it's cheap for 16 songs, great guitar and lyrics. If you are a fan of Link 80, you need this cd. The East Bay Hardcore style in this cd is obvious making it fun to listen to.1. Addiction - Starts off creepy then goes hardcore, fast paced, the horns are great! 2. Evil Twin - Another fast paced song from Link80, great instruments, and lyrics 3. Righ Hook - Catchy sax and trombone sounds, good guitar as always, and ok lyrics 4. Intolerance - I quess this song is about school, teachers, ... 5. Nothing New - A fun song when everything is catchy: tunes, lyrics 6. Resist in G Minor - This song has a lot of yelling, but has a good message, sort-of short, and awesome guitar. 7. Step Up - Good lyrics, instruments as usual, and fun. 8. Face Down - The only Link80 song I'm not to fond of for some reason. It's a good song and all, but I just don't like it that much. 9. My Girl - Mike Park sings most of the lyrics in this song, of course it's about a girl, great horns, and drums. 10. Past Tense - This song and the next, I think are about Nick Traina with the titles and the lyrics, both great songs 11. Time for Change - Reasons with track 10 12. Tengo Nada - Good song, a normal Link80 song 13. Peril After Peril - Rockin' beats and catchy tunes are what explain this song 14. Unbroken - A fun last song, good everything as usual So all in all, this Link 80 cd, should be the most wanted East Bay Hardcore cd, nothing bad about it. I gave it 5 stars because of everything I have listed, If this is your fisrt Link 80 buy it, and if you like the EBH, check out 17 reasons where Nick Traina sang the lyrics.

This cd is so cool. If you don't have it, you seriously need to buy it right now. Nick Traina has an awesome punk/ska voice and this music is kickin'. Also, if you haven't read "His Bright Light.... The Story of Nick Traina" you have to, it's a great book. I cried so many times......no I'm not goin emo here but its so cool.

Good Punk Rock With Horns,
By
This review is from: Struggle Continues (Audio CD)
Don't let any sentiments for the previous singer stray you away from this CD. The singer (who had gotten much criticism for "pretending to be the former singer", not sounding like the last singer, etc. etc.) in my opinion is quite good when comparing the old group to the new one. The only downfall (if you want to call it that) that I can see is that he can't scream at all, but the band does plenty of that to cover for him so it's all good. This band was never strong on musicianship back in the day but made up for it with strong songwriting. This disc boasts some tight musicanship, some tight songwriting and the lyrics are top notch. Check out "Past Tense" and "Time For Change". Definatly my favorite Link 80 tracks.
