I have been searching for this CD since seeing these two young men on the A train in NYC. I was always impressed by their professionalism, but more importantly their talent. They stopped everybody in their tracks when they started out with the classical and then rocked the house when they included the hip hop element, creating their own form. I happened to catch them last year on Jay Leno and have been searching for this CD since. A random sighting when they were on CSI:NY (yes they are getting around) renewed my search and thank you Lord! I've been playing it all weekend and making everyone else crazy with it too! These two Brothers are gifted and are using the talents given to them; keeping it positive! Keep on movin' and don't stop!

I hate to be the first to write any negative comments about this album but...

I stumbled upon this group one day when I woke up early on a weekend, flicked on the TV, and happened to catch these guys playing Thunder. I was blown away by there performance and sound. A few days later the album was released and I picked it up right away...only to be disappointed. The album has its highlights: Track 1, 3 and anywhere the music is just instrumental. The integration of hip-hop and classical is superb and gves this group a fresh new style. The disappointing part of this album: the rapping/singing/vocals. The rapping is mediocure at best and that is being generous. Tracks 4-7 are cheesy and the rhymes throughout this album are amateur. The remix of Thunder is a waste of a track (the song was solid the first time, why remix it?)

They went to Juliard and Bloomingdale to play the violin (which they excel at) not to rap. My recommendation: Stick to what you do best.

4.0 out of 5 stars You can easily get addicted to this., March 13, 2007

I am loving these guys. Tourie Escobar and Damien Escobar known as Nuttin But Stringz are great. The first time I've notice them was in the "Step Up" movie. Even though the scene was short I instantly like what I heard. I took the time to look them up and notice that they've made a few appearances on the day and nightly shows plus a few sitcoms. They combine the classical sound of the violin with Pop, R&B and Hip-hop. The result of this turn out to be one of those unique and uplifting sound with just the right amount of rhythm and intensity. Playing in the subway has paid off for these two which lead them to contribute back to the community by performing and dedicating there time to the kids by discussing music and of course staying in school.

Their first single entitled "Thunder" showcases their raw talent; it digs into the soul, slowly unleashes it and exposes it. "Broken Sorrow" and "Dance with My Father," takes me away and it's simply fantastic. The remix of "Thunder" is very up beat and ended the album rather well. But really there isn't one track I dislike and/or wouldn't recommend. These thirteen tracks might be too small for your liking but impact that it gives you stays on you for quite some time.

Nuttin But Stringz does justice to these genres of music. If you're not that into hip hop or hate the way is going, or have a thing for classical music and want it to flare up a bit then this might give you what you need. I believe kids with the love for music will also enjoy this.

3.0 out of 5 stars More rap than stringz, October 6, 2008
This review is from: Struggle From the Subway to the Charts (Audio CD)
I first saw this group perform on America's Got Talent and was absolutely blown away. The talent of these two artists is incredible. Their ability to play the violin intertwined with a variety of music types is sheer genius. That said, the CD was a massive disappointment. The violin music takes a back seat to rap and in some songs the violin is barely audible. I hope they come out with another CD with more violin. Look for this group to take a prominant role in shaping the future of merging hip-hop and classical music. Nuttin But Stringz are men of genius and talent. The CD does not reflect their skills.

I first encountered this group after hearing them in the film "Step Up" and after discovering their release date was coming up, signed up for their first CD. It is beyond great. These two young musicians are absolutely fabulous, talented, innovative, and insightful. The strains are filled with classical, klezmer, oriental, middle-eastern elements while a constant clear, yet not abrasive hip-hop element remains the masterful beat. Excellent, excellent. I highly recommend this to any one who enjoys music, is looking for something "out of the box" and wants to enjoy what is happening in this new musical scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars just excellent, June 8, 2009

Let me explain WHY I'm giving this album 5 stars. Yes, there's some flaws with it, mostly for the rapping parts, which aren't offensive or anything. Just good enough for the most part but do their job preparing us for the breathtakingly BEAUTIFUL and incredible violin jams.

These guys ARE the real deal, and I honestly believe they deserved to win America's Got Talent last year instead of the guy who ended up winning. No offense to him, or operatic vocals, but Nuttin' But Stringz is doing something incredible- they are making rap listenable to older generations who may not particularly care for that style of music, and combining it with these mind-boggling violin jams that really showcase just how talented these two individuals are.

This is NOT the kind of violin playing that just passes by and does nothing for the listener- trust me, I'm a big Mahavishnu Orchestra fan because I appreciate really good violin playing, and these guys definitely stand their own against ANY legendary violin player.

I was hoping these guys would be even bigger than they are at this moment in time, and hopefully they will get their major breakthrough that some of us hardcore fans have been waiting for. The mainstream world needs to be exposed to some honest and carefully played instrumental beauty during their music listening time.

5.0 out of 5 stars soothing, February 25, 2007

I had the previledge to see these two young men on TV on "Breakfast with the Arts", they are s-o-o-o c-o-o-l. I bought the CD for my grandson who is taking violin lessons. I listened to it first to make sure it was right for an [...]. I fell in love with the artists and their music. It was refreshing to hear two brothers in the same family with so much talent. I would love to see a live performance or performances of them on DVD. If you love music you will love these two brothers.

The violins were great, but wished they emphasized it more in their music. Would love to see them do their own take on classical pieces.

I bought this cd for my sister and she has not stopped talking about it. She has put it on the p.a. system at the school where she teaches and all her co- workers are crazy about it. I am now buying my own copy because I can't seem to pry it out of her hands. Amazing work by these 2 young artists.
