5.0 out of 5 stars AAAAH! I HAVE TO FIND THE THIRD ONE!
I've read all of L.J. Smith's series except for the last 2 in this one. I liked Elena's character (she wasn't some wimpy kid) and most of her reactions were easy to relate to and weren't stupid like some girls' characters can be. I also understand the way she's torn between Damon and Stefan. Damon reminds me a little bit of THE Gorgeous Shadow Man Julian (The Forbidden...

3.0 out of 5 stars Teenager Book
We all said Stephenie Meyer's books were for teenagers... this one is for sure for them. The verbiage is teenage level... easy read though that kept me going through the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars AAAAH! I HAVE TO FIND THE THIRD ONE!, February 26, 2000

I've read all of L.J. Smith's series except for the last 2 in this one. I liked Elena's character (she wasn't some wimpy kid) and most of her reactions were easy to relate to and weren't stupid like some girls' characters can be. I also understand the way she's torn between Damon and Stefan. Damon reminds me a little bit of THE Gorgeous Shadow Man Julian (The Forbidden Game--another must-read) because of a lot of things (the way he acts and appears/disappears, is graceful, the way he thinks), but Stefan is so devoted and mysterious that I luv him too. The ending of this book was pretty surprising for me, and now I am pulling my hair out waiting to find out what happens in the 3rd and 4th books.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED THIS SERIES!, May 22, 2006
This review is from: The Struggle (The Vampire Diaries Series Vol II) (Mass Market Paperback)
Vampire Diaries was a great series!! I didn't like how the last book in the series was going but it ended up great! The book starts with: girl meets hot vampire Stephen and his also very hot but evil brother Damon. She is in love with the kind hearted Stephen, but evil Damon wants her all to himself. She trys to stay away from Damon but no matter what she does he keeps finding ways to get to her to take her blood, slowly turning her into a vampire. She cannot tell Stephen what is going on because he is still weak from a horrific battle with Damon, and if she would tell him he would become so angry he would try to kill Damon and end up dying because he isn't strong enough to battle him again so soon. The whole series has a great plot, but I definitly recommend buying all the books before you start reading the series or you will be left hanging untill the next book. Trust me I know! I started reading the Awakening #1 in the Vampire Diaries series, and I had to end up waiting for two months to find the second book and another month to find the third and fourth book. I have read the series about 6 times since last year. L.J. Smith is a great writer, if you like the vampire diaries you should read the Secret Circle series and her Night World series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad read., July 15, 2001
This review is from: The Struggle (The Vampire Diaries Series Vol II) (Mass Market Paperback)
This isn't a bad read and it's a quick read too. I love reading vampire novels, and was told I should give it a try. Over all, it wasn't that bad. I found it interesting that the word "vampire" is never used. If it was, it was done once and I missed it.

This is the story of Stefan, a vampire that wasn't to put his past behind him, and live a "normal" life as a vampire. He enrolls on school and meets Elena, who falls for Stefan. Some murders happen and all (most all) of the finger pointing goes to Stefan. Stefan has a darker and more evil Brother nanmed, Damon. He too wasn't Elena. And will kill for her....

Over all it's a decent book. It's a YA book, so it's not heavy on teh vampire aspect. Heck, the vampires could go out in the day. that was a bit over the top for me, but I enjoyed the book.

Smith has a writing style that can keep you hooked to the book. The char are well developed and the plot is interesting to read with a lot of nice twists.

take a chance, you may like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly underrated..., April 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Struggle (The Vampire Diaries Series Vol II) (Mass Market Paperback)
Those who lambaste and flame this series can say nothing more intelligent than "it's for teeny-boppers" or "it's wanna-be goth". As a teenager and a friend to many goths, I can say clearly that it is neither. Even after reading all of the books, I still bought all four of them to add to my own collection. They're haunting, passionate, full of romance and pathos; they show you a side to the so-called 'beautiful people' that makes them more human and displays their faults as well as their hidden weaknesses, then opens them up and pours out their very essence for the reader to peruse.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best!, June 21, 1997
By A Customer
The second book in Smith's beautiful series, the beautiful, strong, and intelligent Elena Gilbert is drawn deeper and deeper in the world of vampires. She is struggling to hold on to one brother while resisting the other. Her boyfriend, a mysterious exchange student named Stefan Salvatore, has been accused of murder. While he and Elena try to clear him, they have to discover who the actual murderer is. They suspect it is Stefan's older brother Damon. Elena's diary has been stolen by her ex-best friend Caroline, who plans to use Elena's own words against Stefan. You'll never guess how she gets the diary back, the lengths she will go to to protect her family and friends, or what happens to Elena on Founder's Day

5.0 out of 5 stars The Struggle - Vampire Diaries - Book 2, August 19, 2009
This review is from: The Struggle (The Vampire Diaries Series Vol II) (Mass Market Paperback)
We'll, we still have our favorite love triangle. Elena (the girl), Stefan (good boy vamp), and Damon (brother to Stefan and also bad boy vamp). The book starts off with Stefan missing and Elena is going to find him. Of course, Elena thinks Damon did something to him. This book mostly consist of Damon being the enemy who keeps pursuing Elena whether she wants him to or not and Stefan trying to keep Elena safe. They know something horrible is going to happen on Founder's Day (Bonnie is psychic) and they (being the gang) is trying to make sure everyone is safe!

I loved the 2nd book as much as the 1st. I thought it was even better. This book has a lot more Damon in it and wicked action!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An unforgettable romance meets horror, April 5, 2003
This review is from: The Struggle (The Vampire Diaries Series Vol II) (Mass Market Paperback)
This truely got to be the BEST vampire book I've read. This book is full of surprises and poor Damon is so misunderstood! The beautiful blonde girl is torn between two brothers and when you read it you can see why. Who would you pick? Sweet loving Stefan or mysterious exciting Damon? Both have a good heart and blood thirsty..

Elena and Stefan are becoming closer and closer. And she's trying to avoid Damon. Anyways Caroline stole Elena's diary and is planning to read it at the Founder's Day Pagent because in it is evidence that Stefan was at the sight of the attacks that happened in Fell's Church. So they are plotting to get her diary back and Damon gets it for her. Anyway read what happens to Elena and the crew in this great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars MY FAVORITE BOOK! IT TOOK ME TO ANOTHER WORLD!, June 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Struggle (The Vampire Diaries Series Vol II) (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't know about you but this is the best book I've ever read! I've read the series 3 times, which is very unusal for me! I love books like this one because it's romantic, its got the horror and love mixed in it. This may sound crazy but you can't help falling hopelessly in love with the two brothers Stefan and Damon! Don't worry though I love Stefan more, hehe! Don't ask... When you read these books it becomes your world, sounds crazy doesn't it. But really I can't get over the book! I love the way the guys, especially Stefan, would do anything for his girl, Elena, and how they couldn't stand one moment appart from each other. I want a boyfriend like that lol (laugh out loud). But you also have to love Damon too, but he's mysterious and goregous (just like Stefan)hehe. I know it's a book but it can take you to another world. You better read it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Series You Will Never Forget!!!!!, December 10, 2001

I loved this series!!! This book especially. I read this book about 5 years ago and to this day, if you ask me to name my top favorite books The Struggle would be #1 followed by the other books of this "I could'nt put the book down, if I tried" series.

Elena is a sweet "I would do anything to help someone in need" type of a girl who's beauty is as captivating as her personality.
Apparently the Vampire Stefan and his brother Damon thinks so too. The story holds your eyes as Elena discovers she loves both men and has to choose between them.

Whew!!!! there is so much more to this story and so little space to say it...but then again I'd hate to ruin this book for anyone interested in buying it.....But Hey if you are into vampire novels with a huge heaping of passion and romance....BUY THE BOOK!!!!!!
