5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting and enjoyable book, November 6, 2011

Bob Wiley is a long-time friend of mine so my opinion of his book is likely influenced by that fact. That said, the book is an interesting look at life during the Depression, service during World War II, and the life of a man who fits the mold of a member of "The Greatest Generation."

Bob's honesty and integrity, something I saw in him personally many times, comes through in many incidents recorded in the book. The country needs more men and women with his values and love of country.

A thoroughly enjoyable book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!, October 29, 2011

Comic Actor "Dan" (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
My 87-year-old dad wrote this so my review is biased. It's a great read! The subject matter was interesting, the stories were well told and the imagery was powerful at times. I can't imagine growing up without plumbing or flying planes around the world so the perspective alone is worth the time. It provoked emotions and enriched my understanding of lives in a different generation. I love this book. Buy it.

I learned of this book because I was privilaged to Fly in SAC (B-47s) as his navigator. It was an interesting read, well written and an amazing career both in the military and after. I think anyone will be enjoy it and be proud that we americans have such wonderful, dedicated people. Bob and I are still friends and in contact. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Wiley's AutoBio, December 12, 2011
Bob's story is very well told. The kid led an interesting life. I have not known Bob very long, but I developed a keen respect for his knowledge and wit. The book is an excellent read and gave me a better insight to his life. I enjoyed his service exploits and want to give thanks for his duty and the pleasure of publishing this book. Monty Abeyta

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my true American Heroes!, November 12, 2011

This review is from: Struggles, Service & Smiles: The Autobiography of a Depression Era Kid (Kindle Edition)
As a lover of books, once I picked this story up I could not put it down. I have known Bob Wiley and his family for many years but after reading this autobiography I discovered how little I really did know him; just like his kids. From the struggles of growing up during the depression to the life as a career serviceman Bob has shown me what life was really like for the "average Joe." As a long time resident of Aurora, CO, my favorite parts of his story were the years in Aurora. My parents grew up during the same era as Bob and I wish they would share their stories with the world also. Bob, some day you will have to finish your story. A big fan...

5.0 out of 5 stars A True American Hero, October 17, 2011
I just finished reading Bob Wiley's book and I have come to the conclusion that some kids growing up in this country really learned how to sacrifice early in life. This book is both colorful and enlightening about the depression years and what we can learn about this period. His commitment to family and country deserves a salute! He really does personify what is good about this country. Thank you Bob!

Jerry Thirstrup, an admirer.
