Are you mellow enough...?,
By Bear Up Bison (Iowa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Strung Out On Jagged Little Pill: The String Quartet Tribute To Alanis Morissette (Audio CD)
There comes a certain chill of excitement at recognizing the familiar Alanis songs in this cd, and at the same time, I revel in the new sound they're given with the deep, sombre cellos, the edgy, sometimes shrieking violins; what is it about string instruments that is so beautiful? Whatever it is, this cd is a great listen, a combination of classic beauty and good modern music, not unlike Rasputina, or Regina Carter. If you've got a spirit mellow enough, put this on and enjoy. FOOTNOTE: If you are not a fan of both orchestration AND Alanis Morissette, then don't expect to like this! (Why would you?)

Beautiful String Quartet Arangement,

I'm somewhat a fan of Alanis Morissette, and just beginging to enjoy the beauty of classical music. I love the string quartet arrangement to begin with. Jagged Little Pill is a work of art--what better way to recognize it and pay tribute to this album than showing us just how spectacular this album is even without the raw lyrics and vocals. It's refeshing to hear the album in a different way. It's almost like going back to when the album was fresh and new. If you don't like classical music or can't appreciate the beauty of 2 violins, a viola and a cello, don't get this album. I HIGHLY recoment this to people who are open minded with classical music and appreciate it's beauty, but especially those who would like to explore classical music--this would be a PERFECT start!

A tribute to one of the most popular albums in history!,

First of all, when I first bought the "original" Jagged Little Pill album, I was just blown away by Alanis Morissette's honest lyrics and her powerful voice. Five years later this 4-stringed quartet recorded this album, which is an amazing tribute to Alanis Morissette's first world wide release album. Sounds very well composed. The instrumental melow melodies are worth listening to.

Alanis Morissette's songs just don't suit the style of a string quartet, though the makers of this album pulled it off fairly well. Songs like "Perfect", "Forgiven" and "Mary Jane" work well with the string arrangements, but "All I Really Want", "Hand in my Pocket" and "Ironic" are just hilarious. If you're a die hard Alanis fan, this is a must. All others avoid!

I think the strings go well with Morissette's songs. I somewhat like classical music and I'm a huge fan of Alanis. Ones who buy this album might also like the finnish band Apocalyptica who plays Metallica's songs on the album "Four Cellos play Metallica".

This CD Will Convert Borderline Fans,

This review is from: Strung Out On Jagged Little Pill: The String Quartet Tribute To Alanis Morissette (Audio CD)
I just heard this album for the first time today(6/16/05). After 10 years since the original Jagged Little Pill's release, listening to this album brings an entirely new flavor to songs which, for a borderline fan of the original "Jagged", could be taken or left alone. For die-hard fans of Alanis' normally abrupt and screamish vocal style, this album may not do the trick. Alternatively, a fair-weather fan who listens to this album could be persuaded to continue to support this awesome vocalist. Omitting the normally faster, harsh tempos and accompanying rough vocal inflections, this album has allowed a much broader range of listener to enjoy Alanis' impeccable writing style. The mood and feel of this y2k release is completely different from the original. Alanis adjusted her vocal style and delivery of the lyrics to be much more soulful than usual. This results in much deeper feeling from her vocals, and it fits very well with the amazing arragngements by The String Quartet.

Great Renditions for A.M. fans.,

After buying the CD for myself, I have come to the conclusion that whoever composed this wonderful music is a certified and brilliant composer. Songs that tore through the heart with angst, does an exact U-turn for some of A.M.'s best songs. Yet, "You Oughta Know" and "Hand In My Pocket" still carry that same kinda angst with melody.

Seriously. You may think I'm crazy but I adore this CD. It helps me relax at night, and the instrumentals are done well. Sure, a few of them don't quite capture the intended "feel" of the songs, but many of them conjure up vivid images and emotions. I would recommend this CD to someone who is not an Alanis fan if you like instrumental music. Regardless of the "Alanis factor" this is a good CD and it's just a bonus that it's Alanis' music.

This tribute to Alanis'album is good for listening to when you are a Alanis fan, and you can find another face of the music of the album that make you feel different things about a music you heard a lot in the past. By the other way, when you are not Alanis'fan you can know the excelent music of the album without the bothering voice of Alanis Morissette. You can appreciate it, you can love it.
