5.0 out of 5 stars a great concert video of STRYPER
the only officially released concert video of the history-making band STRYPER, the first and to-date most famous Christian rock band EVER. This shows Stryper at the beginning of their heyday: yellow and black outfits and stage set-ups, big hair, lots of lights and make-up, lots of loud guitars and great vocals, and (unlike their contemporary rockers) music with a positive...

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Production - The Guys Sound Better Than This !
I haven't seen this in years, but remember the sound doesn't do them any justice. The video seemed ok, so I'd prolly give it a 3 for the video & a 1 for the audio...

It's a pity really. Hopefully, if they re-release it on DVD, they can get the original multi-track reels & remix it, so it sounds more like the guys really did. The sound is very compressed, no...

the only officially released concert video of the history-making band STRYPER, the first and to-date most famous Christian rock band EVER. This shows Stryper at the beginning of their heyday: yellow and black outfits and stage set-ups, big hair, lots of lights and make-up, lots of loud guitars and great vocals, and (unlike their contemporary rockers) music with a positive message. Sure, they sound preachy at this point in their careers, but its a very nice change from the overload of either partying and sex or cartoonish evilness. Other bands carried a Christian banner during this time; Petra, the Daniel Band, DiGarmo and Key... yet it was Stryper who went into the mainstream with their music and message (the three acts mentioned elsewhere mainly performed in Christian concerts). This film of Stryper, filmed in front of an enthusiastic Japanese audience, features songs from their first full-length release (Soldiers Under Command) and their EP release (Yellow and Black Attack). Say what you will, Stryper puts on a great stage show and performs their music like rock n roll should: loud! This show rivals many of their secular contemporaries such as Bon Jovi & Poison. A great video of a truly great band!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Review of Stryper in Japan, December 28, 2006
This review is from: Stryper:Live in Japan [VHS] (VHS Tape)
It's pretty decent video and really gets you into the music. The show is filled with alot of exciting effects and keeps you entertained.

However, once you've watched it once through and go to watch it again, you begin to wonder about a certain costume--although they do go over that a

little later if you decide to watch the statements after the credits. Ladies who would watch this video may get a little excited over Michael's costume--which may or may be good, depending on your viewpoint.

Michael does add a few words to some of the songs that weren't there on the album--but I believe that's mainly all for show and give the concert more excitement.

All in all, I find it to be a pretty decent performance. If you wish to be entertained and listen to pretty clean music, this is the video for you.

It's a pity really. Hopefully, if they re-release it on DVD, they can get the original multi-track reels & remix it, so it sounds more like the guys really did. The sound is very compressed, no dynamics, the guitars are thin & Michael's vocal sound isn't as strong as it could be...

Prop's go out to the guys though for making the effort, as back in the day, it was a big deal & they do rock !

To hear the band as they should sound, listen to Against The Law...

5.0 out of 5 stars Ah The band that put Jeff Godwin into Christian Conspiracy Theory overdrive, September 23, 2009
This review is from: Stryper:Live in Japan [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Great video loved it its a great look at what the 80's where all about. Still to this day love Stryper! I remember getting into so much trouble over this video though. Being from the South only God loves and cherishes Souther Gospel so the good old boys say. Glorified country music over glorified rock music. Never realised God wore a cowboy hat and liked people who sang through there noses YEE HAW!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excelent concert, November 13, 2004
This review is from: Stryper:Live in Japan [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video gives you a clear vision of what Stryper was in '85.

a neat, solid and concise rock'n'roll band.

it's remarkable the fact of their vocal armonies and the fact they have a singer who was a "real" guitarrist in their line-up, no only a chord player.

There are many memorable moments in this video but there are not acoustic tracks, perhaps because "unplugged fashion" didn't come until '92 (7 years after). Instead you get almost an hour of non-stop heavy metal rock'n'roll the best way it can be.

This is an enjoyable video for those who like 80's heavy metal.

The only miss in this video is the song "Together as one" what was one of their biggest hits. perhaps because it's a ballad and there are no ballads in this video.

My recomendation is: Grab it, watch it and be sure to read the bible (it's a joke)
