5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Food Way To Eat Designed For Living In The Real World, April 16, 2009
This review is from: The Stubborn Fat Fix: Eat Right to Lose Weight and Cure Metabolic Burnout without Hunger or Exercise (Hardcover)
Most conventional diets these days encourage you to "eat less, exercise more." But what if you had a diet to tell you to "eat more, exercise less?" Sound appealing? Well, that's exactly what you get from Dr. Keith Berkowitz and his nutritionist wife Valerie in their new book.

They know from many years of working with patients that the vast majority of diets are destined to fail before they start because they neglect to deal with the reasons why people gain weight. And the strategy that most people have been told to shed the pounds (eat less fat, consume more "healthy" grains, fruits and veggies, lower your calories, exercise often) has just made matters worse, not better.

This book identifies exactly what you need to eat to heal your metabolism from the damage done by these other diets by allowing you to enjoy delicious non-addictive low-carb foods and an occasional indulgence to help you stick to your plan forever. These nutritional tactics are combined with supplementation, controlled exercise, and stress-relief techniques to complement the "fix" you are giving your body.

Above all, this book encourages the use of "real food" with a clear plan of action to make you as successful at shedding stored body fat as you can possibly be.

This review is from: The Stubborn Fat Fix: Eat Right to Lose Weight and Cure Metabolic Burnout without Hunger or Exercise (Hardcover)
Finally a book that is easy to read and provides a personalized approach to weight loss. The best parts of the book are meal plans, exercises, and easy to read nutrition information as well as quizzes to identify what weight loss plan to follow. The book has inspired me to make a lifestyle change for a healthier and longer life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for execuitves and people on a road, April 17, 2009
This review is from: The Stubborn Fat Fix: Eat Right to Lose Weight and Cure Metabolic Burnout without Hunger or Exercise (Hardcover)
This is a real book with real recommendations, especially very useful for people like me who are traveling all the time, spending a lot of time in different places and countries, at executive meetings which usually follow with business breakfast, lunches and dinners where it is complicated to keep diet and in the same time loose wight, get healthy and feel better. It is also important information about your metabolism, blood sugar and controlled diabetes. Highly recommend to everybody who can not follow strict diet and due to work assignments need to spend time in bars/restaurants and have usually limited choice of healthy food but want to be happy, healthy and control weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's really about improving your health...., September 11, 2009

This review is from: The Stubborn Fat Fix: Eat Right to Lose Weight and Cure Metabolic Burnout without Hunger or Exercise (Hardcover)
This book has been very helpful to me.

The approach is that if you improve your overall eating, the weight loss will happen almost automatically. Written by a Doctor and a nutritionist from the point of view of correcting your own personal metabolism. With the help of a few guided questionnaires, you can develop an eating and supplementation plan that corrects your metabolic deficiencies.

The advice given is inspirational and eye-opening. You will soon see how adjusting your eating habits will be good for your health. The weight loss happens without a lot of stressing about counting calories or starvation.

After about 3 months I'm down about 20 pounds--that's including a couple vacations that took me off the plan. I'm sure I could have lost more weight faster if I'd been stricter on myself. I can indulge myself now and then to a limited degree and the weight is still coming off about a pound a week. Overall, I feel great due to the quality of food that I'm eating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Plan; Easy Read, May 14, 2009

This review is from: The Stubborn Fat Fix: Eat Right to Lose Weight and Cure Metabolic Burnout without Hunger or Exercise (Hardcover)
Ever since I read Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution (in which Valerie Berkowitz was given credit), I have been a follower of a low carbohydrate way of eating. I truly believe that it can be the healthiest way to eat. One of the many things that I love about this book is that it focuses not only on weight loss, but overall health through "clean" eating and supplementation.

As the title of my review states, I feel that this book presents an easy plan to understand and follow. It is low in carbohydrates, but you don't have to count every single carbohydrate and try to stay under a certain number. You just eat the specified amount of green veggies, non-starchy veggies, protein, fruits(or chocolate!), fat, etc and you hit the right levels. Also the book provides easy to understand explanations for it's philosophy (hence the "easy read" portion of the title).

I am excited to make some healthy changes in my diet and see where it takes me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just a great book, July 1, 2009
By
This review is from: The Stubborn Fat Fix: Eat Right to Lose Weight and Cure Metabolic Burnout without Hunger or Exercise (Hardcover)
This was the very first "diet" book I've ever read cover to cover - AND I read it over vacation! I've actually been following Atkins this year - and decided after hearing about this book on Jimmy Moore's podcasts to pick this book up - and I am so happy I did! It's got the basic principals of most low-carb diets but includes information on how to incorporate an indulgence or two here and there...and after having gone low-carb now since the beginning of 2009 as much as I love it, I know it's not going to be possible to completely stay away from those old foods I used to love - but this book tells you how to enjoy those foods every once in a while while still sticking to a low-carb whole foods plan. Plus what I absolutely love about this book is it tells you WHY you shouldn't eat junk food and the evil high fructose corn syrup instead of just saying "don't do it". I also really got a lot from the quizzes in the book which has given me more insight to a possible yeast disadvantage, insulin disadvantage & hormone disadvantage.
This book is very well written and is a very easy read and just explains everything I've come to realize is how one should eat for life.

I would recommend this book to absolutely everyone!
