1.0 out of 5 stars Will Not Work on Modern Macs July 14, 2007
Platform for Display:Mac
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I picked this game (copyright 2005) at the Apple store in the US. I brought back to Saudi Arabia and slapped it into my 2007 20'' iMac. It will not load. So I wrote to customer service. They told me that the game does not work on new iMacs with the x1600 video card. I did not see that in the system requirements. What other Macs will it not work on? Seems the only way to tell is to buy it and hope.

All in all, it is an older game and is now being dumped at low prices before it is completely obsolete.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Worth 8 bucks. November 2, 2007
Platform for Display:Mac
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I ordered this game because I wanted something new and you can't beat an 8 buck price tag. I worried as some people mentioned frame rate problems and such. No problems here with a first generation Macbook Pro and 10.4. It plays pretty seamlessly.

Overall, the game is solid. Some of the cut scenes are a bit long and you keep doing the same thing over and over--eating brains--but it is a nice game to turn off your mind and just enjoy. You don't have to use 50 zillion keys to run it--in fact, I used my touch pad and about 8 keys with no problems. Some sophomoric humor, but a solid game.

Is it Halo? No. Is it Medal of Honor? No. Is it fun? Yes. Will I replay it? No, probably not. Is it worth 8 bucks? Yes. For that price, I'll pass it on to a friend and let him enjoy it, too.

YMMV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Undead just wanna have fun! January 23, 2007
Platform for Display:Mac
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Stubbs the Zombie is a wonderfully original game that takes the concept of zombie horror movies and flips them on their head by putting you in the shoes of the brain eaters.

In the game you play Edward "Stubbs" Stubblefield a mild mannered salesman who rises from the grave in search of a new life, a new love, and of course brrraaaaiiiiiiinnnss.

Gameplay wise Stubbs uses a combination of physical attacks like punching, kicking, and head/brain grabbing and other more supernatural feats like gut bombs, undead flatulence, head bowling, and my personal favorite the detachable arm that runs around the game like Thing and affixes itself to unsuspecting citizens thereby taking control of them.

Perhaps the best thing about the game is that is really embraces the zombie canon. All your movement, attacks, and abilities fall in line with being a walking corpse. You can't fire guns unless controlling one of the humans and most of your actions are dictated by you lust for brains. Wideload, the game's creator, really paid attention to what playing a zombie would be like and incorporated those aspects making the game both true and a unique gameplay experience.

I can only hope that other game makers are taking notice and that we'll see more innovation in the space from now on.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm not much of a gamer, but... October 20, 2007
Platform for Display:Mac
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
...this title looked too fun to pass up.

I was a little worried by some of the reviews here and on the Apple site suggesting that the game would not play on Intel Macs. I have a first generation Intel iMac with a 1.83 GHz core duo processor, ATI Radeon X1600 graphics card and 1GB of RAM. I had some issues in the beginning because I hadn't copied the game folder to my hard drive as instructed in the "Readme" file. D'oh!

The game started up fine and played as well as could be expected running under Rosetta. Tweaking the game settings also improved the overall experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a review but a caution June 25, 2006

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I want to make sure potential customers realize that "Stubbs the Zombie" cannot be played on a Mac OS that is 10.3.9 or lower. The game requires a video card your machine won't have, that costs about half the original price of your system. It's too bad, too - looks like a fun game. Sigh.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not compatible. May 8, 2014
Platform for Display:Mac|Verified Purchase
The Game does not work for OSX 10.8.2 I tried to install this but it turns out that it's a powerpc application, which stopped being compatible for OSX around 10.6. It's a real bummer because the package said it worked for 10.4 and above, and I remembered it being a really fun game

I played it for a while, but it's just an okay game. Might be more fun on a console, though.
