Book Description

April 1, 2005 Brio Girls (Book 1)
The Brio Girls series is written to churched teen girls ages 12-16 who read fiction. The series deals with hard and ordinary issues—just like all teens face—but does so with honesty and integrity. The catchphrase for this series is “Where real faith meets real life.” With 124,000 subscribers to Brio magazine, Brio Girls is one of the most visible and successful Christian fiction series in the industry.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Reviewed with Lissa Halls Johnson's Fast Forward to Normal.

Gr. 6-10. High-school juniors Jacie, Solana, Becca, and Tyler have known each other since fourth grade. With the exception of Solana, they are all Christians, referring to themselves as the Brio Girls, which gives rise to the name of this series. Stuck in the Sky focuses on Jacie, a lively teen with an artistic bent, who becomes involved with a young man who doesn't accept her Christian worldview. Jacie's ambivalence about this relationship is compounded by a growing tension toward a new, very outspoken girl who has just joined the group. In Fast Forward, Becca also has problems with the new girl, as well as troubles at home. Both books refrain from providing pat answers to the girls' problems, and readers will appreciate the evenhandedness of the portrayals as the girls settle their differences and work through their own intolerance. Light, pleasurable fare without a lot of heavy moralizing. Shelley Townsend-Hudson

5.0 out of 5 stars The First "Brio Girls" Book, May 17, 2005
This review is from: Stuck in the Sky (Brio Girls) (Paperback)
Lately, Jacie has been feeling as though she is failing at being a Christian. The new girl at school, Hannah, has strong beliefs in God, and she isn't afraid to share her beliefs with others. Where Jacie, on the other hand, gets tongue-tied every time she tries to witness. Not to mention that, as Hannah points out, Jacie is more focused on getting in to an expensive art conference than anything spiritual or Godly. Could anything possibly make Jacie even LESS focused on what she believes is right? Yes, and the answer is: the school "bad boy", who Jacie finds herself very attracted to. She eventually learns that he has a chip on his shoulder, and a grudge against God. But how can she help him if he is always turning her down every time she tries to talk about God?

This was a fantastic book! I could relate to Jacie feeling as though God might not really be there, and understanding her feelings helped me to gain a lot from this book. It inspired me to do daily devotions, and to pray with more heart. Besides the entertaining storyline, the easy-to-relate-to part is why I rate this book "5 stars". The only thing that I didn't like about this book was that the characters were always teasing each other! Some of the sutff that they would say to each other was much more mean than funny. That made the "Brio Girls" seem less like friends some of the time. But other than that, this is a really good book! I recommend it to girls ages twelve to sixteen (the recommended age), since it had some parts that would be inappropriate for younger girls.

Also, this is the first "Brio Girls" book. I think it would be a great place to start reading and get into the series, since newer books sometimes give away the ending to earlier ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Book for Christian Teens, February 17, 2002
This review is from: Stuck in the Sky (Brio Girls) (Paperback)
This book is about a teenager who is trying to adjust to her new life. Jacie is not sure what to think of the new girl, Hannah, who is a little strange. She is a good Christian...but maybe a little too good for Jacie. Meanwhile, Jacie is struggling with her art, trying to get into an art class...but is she good enough? And, how will she be able to witness to others if she freezes up every time she has the perfect oppurtunity. Will she live up to Hannah's expectations and get into the art class? And...what about her relationship with the "bad boy" at school? Read it and find out. Also read fast forward to normal. These books are great for girls ages 11-14 but older teens may enjoy something more complex like the Christy Miller series. Anyway, they are bothe good Christian series and I reccomend you to read them!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, July 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Stuck in the Sky (Brio Girls) (Paperback)
I loved this book. It was great. Jacie and her friends belive in god. Well all, but Solana that is. Hannah a new girl is also a brio girl. She really belives in god and tries to incurage the other girls and Tyler to tell other people about their faith. Jacie feels kind of funny about this. She loves to paint. Jacie meets this bad-boy named Damine. Jacie does not tell anyone about him. They start to hang out together. Jacie really likes him. Well I don't want to tell you to much. You should read this book for yourself. I think you will really like this book.
