stuck in a groove that i can't get out of..., December 27, 2002
This review is from: Stuck in a Groove (Audio CD)
The first thing that you need to know about this album is that, essentially, it's freaking fabulous. However, you might not be able to notice that since there are literally no more than about three reviews of this album on the internet.
I got this CD after only hearing Addicted to Bass and Thrillseeker - both very good songs. It's something that you notice more and more from whenever you take another listen through.
Now, a song-by-song commentary.
Thrillseeker has no lyrics. It's great electronica, though.
Headroom is just fun. Amiel Daemion has an incredibly unique singing voice, and it just works. "I need some headroom, this pressure is killing me..."
Addicted to Bass is probably how you discovered this album. It's addictive, that's for certain. It's very good - one of the best on the disc - but not the best.
Keep On is sweet, soft, and nice. Hypersensitive is great. The guitars are beautiful, the vocals are fabulous. "Is it the holiday I took, that night in my room, where the angels came to tie down the moon..."
The definite stand-out track on this album is Stuck in a Groove. It's catchy, fun, and definitely my favorite, anyways.
A Linear Model has no lyrics, but is still great - similar to Thrillseeker, but not quite. Lift Me Up is fun; it has a rap and sounds reminiscent (to me, anyways) of the '70s. "Seems like the more I try, the more I fall, and it's frightening..."
Breakup Song is okay. Nothing very exciting, but still pretty good. Echoes is, well... not that fabulous. I think I just dislike Dianne Charlemagne's vocals.
Headroom Reprise is great. The same lyrics but different vocals from Headroom, and completely different music and beat. You gotta love the strings.
1 and 9 is a bunch of guitars, basically. No vocals. Just over eight minutes long, it's good as background music. I usually skip it when I reach it.
Don't turn your CD player off after 1 and 9, though! There's a nice remix of Addicted to Bass right afterwords.
This is a very good CD. I was pleasantly surprised by it. It's especially good to have on as you do your daily tasks.
I still can't believe that Puretone (Josh Abrahams, Amiel Daemion, and various others) haven't gotten more of a media presence in the U.S.
Check this album out. It's pure gold.

TOTALLY ADDICTICTED TO PURETONE!!!, October 6, 2003
This review is from: Stuck in a Groove (Audio CD)
Again, I have stumbled across another incredible CD out of sheer depression...Hey, some people eat--I buy CDs! Having got that off my chest, I picked up Puretone after sampling it in the record store. An awesome CD with tremendous dance floor appeal! "Headroom" is a funk-fest reminiscent of some late 80's Paula Abdul cut..."Addicted to Bass"--the best thing on this set--is D&B, 60s go-go, funk and rock all rolled into one, sure to get that thang shakin'..."Hypersensitive" is a melancholy number that reminds you of a Sinead O'Connor tune--Be warned, though, you may get a little teary-eyed listening to it..."Lift Me Up" is a R&B influenced cut that is inspiring as it is funky... and the real and in your face track, "Echoes", that is hypnotic and infectiously groovy! All other cuts on "Stuck in A Groove" are just as good as the ones I mentioned, mind you. It's just that these, in my opinion, are the stand-out tracks. Go out and buy the CD, then you be the judge!

Pure Genius, July 1, 2003
This review is from: Stuck in a Groove (Audio CD)
This disc is in my all-time top 10. There are so many genres covered so well. Drum + Bass, guitar-pop, dance, modern jazz, music concrete, ambient ... it's perfect if you've got a short-attention span like me! In a slightly diferrent form it was Australia's biggest selling dance/techno CD of all time. I wish it would have done better in the U.S. market.
