5.0 out of 5 stars stuck in a groove that i can't get out of..., December 27, 2002

This review is from: Stuck in a Groove (Audio CD)
The first thing that you need to know about this album is that, essentially, it's freaking fabulous. However, you might not be able to notice that since there are literally no more than about three reviews of this album on the internet.

I got this CD after only hearing Addicted to Bass and Thrillseeker - both very good songs. It's something that you notice more and more from whenever you take another listen through.

Now, a song-by-song commentary.

Thrillseeker has no lyrics. It's great electronica, though.

Headroom is just fun. Amiel Daemion has an incredibly unique singing voice, and it just works. "I need some headroom, this pressure is killing me..."

Addicted to Bass is probably how you discovered this album. It's addictive, that's for certain. It's very good - one of the best on the disc - but not the best.

Keep On is sweet, soft, and nice. Hypersensitive is great. The guitars are beautiful, the vocals are fabulous. "Is it the holiday I took, that night in my room, where the angels came to tie down the moon..."

The definite stand-out track on this album is Stuck in a Groove. It's catchy, fun, and definitely my favorite, anyways.

A Linear Model has no lyrics, but is still great - similar to Thrillseeker, but not quite. Lift Me Up is fun; it has a rap and sounds reminiscent (to me, anyways) of the '70s. "Seems like the more I try, the more I fall, and it's frightening..."

Breakup Song is okay. Nothing very exciting, but still pretty good. Echoes is, well... not that fabulous. I think I just dislike Dianne Charlemagne's vocals.

Headroom Reprise is great. The same lyrics but different vocals from Headroom, and completely different music and beat. You gotta love the strings.

1 and 9 is a bunch of guitars, basically. No vocals. Just over eight minutes long, it's good as background music. I usually skip it when I reach it.

Don't turn your CD player off after 1 and 9, though! There's a nice remix of Addicted to Bass right afterwords.

This is a very good CD. I was pleasantly surprised by it. It's especially good to have on as you do your daily tasks.

I still can't believe that Puretone (Josh Abrahams, Amiel Daemion, and various others) haven't gotten more of a media presence in the U.S.

Check this album out. It's pure gold.

4.0 out of 5 stars TOTALLY ADDICTICTED TO PURETONE!!!, October 6, 2003
This review is from: Stuck in a Groove (Audio CD)
Again, I have stumbled across another incredible CD out of sheer depression...Hey, some people eat--I buy CDs! Having got that off my chest, I picked up Puretone after sampling it in the record store. An awesome CD with tremendous dance floor appeal! "Headroom" is a funk-fest reminiscent of some late 80's Paula Abdul cut..."Addicted to Bass"--the best thing on this set--is D&B, 60s go-go, funk and rock all rolled into one, sure to get that thang shakin'..."Hypersensitive" is a melancholy number that reminds you of a Sinead O'Connor tune--Be warned, though, you may get a little teary-eyed listening to it..."Lift Me Up" is a R&B influenced cut that is inspiring as it is funky... and the real and in your face track, "Echoes", that is hypnotic and infectiously groovy! All other cuts on "Stuck in A Groove" are just as good as the ones I mentioned, mind you. It's just that these, in my opinion, are the stand-out tracks. Go out and buy the CD, then you be the judge!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Genius, July 1, 2003

This disc is in my all-time top 10. There are so many genres covered so well. Drum + Bass, guitar-pop, dance, modern jazz, music concrete, ambient ... it's perfect if you've got a short-attention span like me! In a slightly diferrent form it was Australia's biggest selling dance/techno CD of all time. I wish it would have done better in the U.S. market.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD! I love it!, July 27, 2004
This review is from: Stuck in a Groove (Audio CD)
The first song on this album had me hooked. I loved the sound of Headroom.

Besides bringing us Addicted to Bass, which everyone should know and love if they like the dance circuit, they bring us some other aspect of their style, which is all really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting sound from Puretone, very techno/electronic, March 8, 2011
This review is from: Stuck in a Groove (Audio CD)
Overall a good cd with one or two great tracks and one or two good tracks, the rest aren't great. 'Addicted to Bass' is probably the best track along with 'Stuck in a Groove' being another good one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, September 13, 2010
This review is from: Stuck in a Groove (Audio CD)
I bought this after buying Amiel Daemion's two albums Audio Out and These Ties, and I was looking for further music by her, and Stuck in a Groove popped up. Her voice is unique in it's seductive innocence, and it comes across really well in this CD, which has a lot of merits other than simply Amiel's voice. I just wish she'd stop pansying about in Melbourne and get her third album out - the world would be a better place for it, I'm sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best, February 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Stuck in a Groove (Audio CD)
Puretone's one album is a work of audio art. While the song "Addicted to Bass" is what got me interested, all of the tracks on this CD are superb. Actually the track "Stuck in a Grove" is, I think, a notch above even "Addicted to Bass".
