4.0 out of 5 stars Charming and Crafty!, September 1, 2009

This review is from: Stuck on Murder (A Decoupage Mystery) (Paperback)
Big city girl escapes her past by moving to an idyllic New England small town only to find that small town jealousies can be just as dangerous as urban life. Brenna Miller is the plucky heroine of this new series unraveling the mystery and mayhem amid the quirky inhabitants of Morse Point. The decoupage theme centers around Vintage Papers, the fine paper shop where Brenna works with her former college roommate. It's a charming page-turner plot with a great setting, appealing characters, decoupage tips/tricks, plus the author's special blend of snarky fun humor!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful New England Cozy, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Stuck on Murder (A Decoupage Mystery) (Paperback)
Lucy Lawrence has created a wonderful cozy mystery.
Set in a sleepy New England town, things begin to heat up
when the mayor is found dead.
Who, what, when and why, are some of the questions, Brenna Miller
tries to figure out in order to save her landlord and friends.
This mystery is full of zany neighbors. I dare say we all have a few
of these characters in our own town, I imagine.
I enjoyed this mystery, and hope others give this cozy mystery
a chance to wiggle its way into your heart.
Also, the decoupage crafts seem something that I myself would love to try.

5.0 out of 5 stars stuck on murder, September 21, 2009
This review is from: Stuck on Murder (A Decoupage Mystery) (Paperback)
"Stuck on Murder" is the first in a new cozy series with decoupage as the theme. Breanna Miller moves to a small New England town to forget her past in Boston but somehow stumbles across the dead body of the major. To make matters worse, Breanna's landlord, Nate, recently had a very public feud with the major, making Nate the prime suspect. Breanna plays sleuth in an attempt to clear her landlord's name.

Anyone who loves New England or small town cozies will probably like "Stuck on Murder." You don't need to like decoupage to enjoy this mystery either; the cast of characters & the town make the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stuck on this book, November 4, 2009
This review is from: Stuck on Murder (A Decoupage Mystery) (Paperback)
Disclaimer: I know the author. When "Stuck on Murder" came out and I got to read a copy, I prepared all sorts of nice things to say. Like you do to a mother with a strange looking baby. Fortunately, the book was good. I devoured it in two sittings and promptly forgot all prepared platitudes. This book is exactly what a cozy mystery should be. The humor is not forced, the main character Brenna is likeable, the plot believable and the ending, which sets up the next book in the series, did not irritate. I'm looking forward to see what happens next.

Stuck on Murder is a delightful mystery with clever characters and a fun resolution. I'd recommend this book to all my friends. There are smiles and gotcha's, and it's a wonderful spin to the end of the story.

I loved this book. I'm all about characters that make me smile and situations that make me laugh out loud. Lucy Lawrence did it all. I didn't want the book to end and can't wait for her next one. She's one funny author and she tells a great tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun New England cozy!, September 30, 2009
This review is from: Stuck on Murder (A Decoupage Mystery) (Paperback)
New England cozies are my favorite kind, and Stuck on Murder fits the bill! The setting is a small Massachusetts town brimming with quirky characters and quaint little businesses--exactly my kind of place. The main character, Brenna Miller, has settled in Morse Point to escape her past and start a new life. Instead she discovers the body of the murdered mayor stuffed inside a trunk! The author does a fine job with clues and red herrings, and the ending piques your interest for the next one in the series. A fun and delightful mystery.

I so enjoyed this book. Lucy Lawrence creates a great cast of characters wacky enough to be funny but not so out there that they weren't believable and human. Fun mystery, a bit of tantalizing who-will-she-choose romance and craft ideas to boot! Looking forward to the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Cozy, December 16, 2009
This review is from: Stuck on Murder (A Decoupage Mystery) (Paperback)
This was a great cozy. Brenna is a likable heroine who tries to
help her landlord who is the main suspect in a murder.
The other characters are another reason why this book is a great
read. They are believable and fun. The book was page turner that I couldn't put down.
I can't wait for the next in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice entry into the cozy field, February 11, 2010
This review is from: Stuck on Murder (A Decoupage Mystery) (Paperback)
Brenna Miller moves from the big city to mill town New England and trades the Boston art scene for decoupage classes at Vintage Paper. Brenna is renting a cottage from a reclusive man, artist Nate Turner, who had fled the busy city art scene in New York. Before a decoupage class, the Mayor asks Brenna to convince Nate to sell some of the land he has purchased around the lake. The Mayor and his cronies want to develop the land with vacation townhouses, condos and the like. Nate takes on the mayor and in a screaming argument declares "But I'll sell my property over my dead body. Or better yet over your dead body." Of course, the mayor ends up dead with Nate as the chief suspect. Brenna and Nate race to find the true killer.

A good book gives the reader something to think about and Stuck on Murder (A Decoupage Mystery) is a good readable cozy, but also informs. You'll learn interesting facts about decoupage such as Marie Antoinette being a decouper. I actually Googled this to see if it was true and it is!
