Former Las Vegas cop Logan Wolfe retreats to idyllic Plentiful, Wyoming after rooting out his corrupt partner. His nascent peace is unfortunately shattered by quirky characters, particularly the red-haired siren and mystery bookstore owner Scarlett O'Malley and her senior patrons Ida and Mildred who are all aspiring sleuths and fanatics over the popular Smythe novels.

Patti Berg is a fervent aficionado of mystery too, evident from the small-town mystery and mayhem setting rehashed from the likes of Nancy Drew and Agatha Christie. She throws in a red herring by casting suspicion on the disappearance of the town's richest widow Opal whom Logan is seen to have contact with. Scarlett investigates the death of the lady with initials "E.G" in her bookshop with the assistance of her zealous friends. She soon finds out her stepfather and local sheriff Adam Grant, which she suspects of him silencing her mother years earlier, connected to the lady's death.

It is a zippy, fast-paced jaunt with mystery and romance. Logan is the strong, reticent alpha-male who shows infinite patience towards Scarlett's untrusting nature culled from her mother's disastrous marriage. This frustrates the readers and does little for their chemistry. Yet Stuck On You remains engaging with Ms. Berg's whimisical fun and infectious passion in her writing to make a captive of you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Why did the hero put up with this dingbat?, August 21, 2003

This review is from: Stuck on You (Mass Market Paperback)
Like one other reviewer, I simply could not stand Scarlett. By the middle of the book, I actually felt sorry for Logan, for the fact that he would be stuck with this neurotic crackpot for the rest of his life. Have you ever met a couple where the guy is drop dead gorgeous, super nice and the gal is an absolute witch? And you ask yourself: "This guy could have anyone, so why in hell is he with her?" Well, Logan and Scarlett are going to inspire that reaction in everyone they meet. Obviously Scarlett's nosy paranoia was supposed to be endearing or sympathetic, but I just had no respect for someone who could jump to such ridiculous, hurtful conclusions about people based on so few facts. I didn't blame Logan for being frustrated with her and, like the other reviewer, when he walked out on Scarlett I was actually cheering, and therefore was disappointed when he forgave her less than a page later. To make matters worse, Scarlett doesn't redeem herself by tackling and conquering her trust issues on her own like a mature, introspective adult. Instead, Logan has to solve her problems for her, by painstakingly forcing her to actually think (gasp!!) logically for once. I couldn't believe that he had to tell a 29-year-old to actually investigate her assumptions instead of jumping to conclusions. Realistically, Scarlett should have been a complete turn-off for Logan, and the author never convinced me why this wasn't so. Patti Berg certainly isn't the best romance author out there, but this story doesn't meet even her previous standards.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Laughs and Characters!!!, February 25, 2003
This review is from: Stuck on You (Mass Market Paperback)
Do you remember Charity's cop friend from "Something Wild"? Well, Lucas has left the police force in Las Vegas and has moved to Plentiful Wyoming where he plans to retire and lick his wounds from his past police life. He lives in a cabin way off the beaten track and has Yogi, Boo Boo, and Snagglepuss just to mention a few of the local animal population that hang around him. He loves Elvis and he has a huge problem! He is attracted to a small red haired not to mention the towns favorite but flaky mystery bookstore owner.

Scarlett is as bold and as brazen as her name but is a total fruitcake. She owns a mystery bookstore which makes sense due to the fact that she cut her teeth on Nancy Drew and her dead father was a well-known mystery writer. Scarlett and her buddies the "slueths" see a mystery in every action and this leads to some pretty funny situations until an old cranky lady comes into Scarlett's bookstore and dies. To add insult to injury the new hunk in town seems to be someone she can't get out of her mind, and this is a bad things since the "slueths" think that he is either a murder, or out to take the money from the wealthy widows in town. But his kissessss make her toes tingle and makes it hard to breath.

This was a fast paced read with great laughs. The characters regardless if they were the furry ones or the humans were great. The mystery of the dead lady figures heavily into the story and is an asset. You don't want to miss Ms. Berg's latest story.

This is my first book by Patti Berg, but it won't be my last. Las Vegas ex-cop Logan Wolfe escapes his demons and relocates to the peaceful little town of Plentiful, Wyoming. He keeps a low profile, only telling people that he's retired. He meets bookstore owner Scarlett O'Malley. She's instantly attracted to the gorgeous ex-cop and he's facinated by her sexy petite body and cute belly button ring. Scarlett on the other hand, along with four nosey elderly women who visits her bookstore regularly, has already been spying on Logan. They think he's a gigolo, because he's been seen with another wealthy elderly woman, (Opal). Then a unidentified woman visits Scarlett's store while she's hitting on Logan, in addition to urging him to purchase some books. After he leaves the unidentified woman collapes and dies. Scarlett's stepfather Adam Grant (Chief of Police) enters on to the scene to investigate. Scarlett has her suspicions about Adam because she believes he had something to do with her mother's death and she doesn't like him. Scarlett starts her own private investigating of Logan, because one of the elderly sleuths, tells her that she saw him carry something that might have been Opal's body wrapped in carpet out of the wealthy woman's house. (You'll definitely enjoy the chapter where Scarlett breaks into Logan's house escaping two Grizzly bears, and you'll also like the following chapter.) Now in addition to a dead unidentfied woman, Opal is missing and the sleuths think Logan killed her, but Scarlett is doubtful. Scarlett and Logan start a relationship and he opens up to her about his past, then they team up to figure out what the hell is going on in Plentiful, Wyoming. the Anyway, this book is funny, sexy, suspenseful and an all around good read, you will not want to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars It took one day to read...., June 9, 2003
This review is from: Stuck on You (Mass Market Paperback)
this mystery/comical collection by Patti Berg, which was also my first read by the author.

Scarlett, a captivating woman with a head full of crazy red hair lives in the small town of Plentiful, WY. She owns an old Victorian which she houses her store offering murder/mystery books, tea and scones. She has several older women who are her friends who get together every week to discuss the latest in new releases. In this small town, these ladies are known as "The Sleuths" and if you are doing it, they will know about it.

Trouble walks into town one day by the name of Logun Wolfe (and what a name that is). A tall, dark and incredibly gorgeous man turns the town upside down after a stranger collapses and dies in Scarlett's store. The stranger holds all the clues to questions that Scarlett has had all of her life, and it's up to "The Sleuths" to uncover the truth and to determine what Logun's motive with Scarlett could be.

I don't get to finish many books in just one day, that's why I am giving "Stuck on You" ***** stars. It held my attention the entire time and left me wanting to turn the page to see what happens next. Even though I became bored with the love scenes towards the end, they will definetly make you blush.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll be "Stuck" with a Patti Berg Anytime!, February 3, 2003

Always a huge fan of Patti Berg, I was in the grocery store the day Stuck on You was released. Unable to wait until I got home to start reading, I flipped open the book. What a treat--what a mistake.<g> I couldn't stop. Scarlett O'Malley leapt off the page and into my heart in a way a heroine hasn't done for a long time. I found her irresistibly charming and utterly captivating. I stood in the aisle way reading with my seven-year-old tugging on my coat, trying to pull me away. He had almost succeeded (well, that and the threat of melted Cherry Garcia) when I hit the end of chapter one and met our hero Logan Wolfe (aka The Big Bad Wolfe). What a man! With great difficulty I finally managed to drag myself to the cash register and then hurry home. I threw the frozen lasagna in the oven (having of course earlier abandoned all thought of making the meatloaf and mashed potatoes I had originally went to the store to buy ingredients for) and delved right back in to Scarlett and Logan's world. STUCK ON YOU is a must read for anyone who loves heart-breakingly real characters, humor and poignancy, and romance with a touch of mystery. I know you will enjoy Scarlett and Logan as much as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance, mystery and laughs! This book has it all!, April 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Stuck on You (Mass Market Paperback)
Mystery bookstore owner Scarlett O'Malley has an American flag charm dangling from her belly button ring, a mop of flaming red hair (which she thinks looks like an exploding firework), and a vivid imagination. She sees trouble lurking around every corner--and when a sexy and sensitive hunk (also an ex-cop) named Logan Wolfe shows up in town, she's sure he's out to scam all the wealthy widows in Plentiful, Wyoming.

When another stranger drops dead in Scarlett's bookstore and the wealthiest widow in town disappears, Scarlett's friends (the Tuesday Morning Sleuth Society--3 very funny old ladies!) are sure Logan is responsible. But Scarlett doesn't want to believe a guy like Logan could be a killer, and after her belly button ring gets stuck to a button on his jeans, she sets out to find the truth (and gets into a lot of trouble--and fun--along the way).

After "meeting" Logan Wolfe in Patti Berg's book SOMETHING WILD, I couldn't wait to read more about him in STUCK ON YOU. This book was a riot and shouldn't be missed.

1.0 out of 5 stars IRRITATING FEMALE INEXPLICABLY WINS HERO, February 4, 2003

This review is from: Stuck on You (Mass Market Paperback)
I usually enjoy books by this author, but this is the exception. I found Scarlett's mistrust of Logan, in fact her entire man-phobia, to be irritating. Most of the townsfolk labeled her a crackpot, and I tended to agree. Why would someone as intelligent, handsome and decent as Logan fall for such a wacko? Surely not on the basis of a belly button ring and freckles, yet that is what we must believe to make this absurd plot work. Which makes one question Logan's IQ for pursuing her. When he becomes angry with Scarlett and walks off, I was praying he'd keep going and not come back! Not a good thing for a romance novel. Scarlett wasn't quirky, she was obnoxious and aggravating. Truly the first romance I've read where I wanted the hero to dump the heroine and tell her to get a life - without him.

2.0 out of 5 stars Predictable, December 2, 2007
This review is from: Stuck on You (Mass Market Paperback)

PLEASE DON'T READ UNTIL AFTER YOU READ THE BOOK- SPOILERS
Unsuprising. Cheesy. Irritating. Juvenile. All of these words describe what I just finished reading. Let's start off with Juvenile. What makes this book juvenile is how it's worded. Very easy and forawrd reading which isn't a bad thing but a lot of the book was not meant for juveniles to read and that's what the words seemed to project to. There was nothing to think about, everything was "Scarlett did this." "Logan said this." Not to mention the lack oof vocabulary. I don't think there was a word that had more than 8 letters. This is a mature audience you're writing too Berg, we can handle bigger words. I feel as if I could have written this book and I'm not a journalist. It was like some ordinary person just started writing a 400 page book right out of high school.

Cheesy. Definitely a word to describe this book. Just the sexual cliches towards the end made my eyes roll in a cynical way. Come up with some better sexual inneudos. I don't even think you could call them sexual innuendos because some were so painfully in uncleverly obvious.

Unsurpsiing and predictable. What I couldn't predict happening and what could have made this book suprising was flat out told by Logan. No I wouldn't have guessed the connection between Edna and (insert name here to avoid spoilers) Except when Logan just blurts it out with no thought at all. I know some might have predicted it, but I would have had a kick with a little suspense leading to that fact. But no, the author makes Logan spit it out with ease. So, I'm like "oh, thats what it is." Can you even call this a mystery book with that kind of logic?

So overall I give it 2 stars. A Cheesy, predictable, light, and predictable romance novel.

Bad thing is, the plot was really good, it was just ruined by the author.
