Sud Bar Pull Up Bar - excellent product, July 6, 2010
I've made many different pull up bars, trying to save money. Yet this product is worth every penny. It is easy to install and bomber solid. I'm an avid "CrossFitter" - the bar doesn't budge, even with my most violent kipping pull ups.
At first, the bar was a bit too smooth for my taste. A bit of fine grain sand paper gave it a more secure feel for me.
I highly recommend it to anyone in search of a rock solid pull up bar.

So much better than door-mounted, September 17, 2010
This review is from: Stud Bar Pull Up Bar (Sports)
Previously I had one of those pull up bars that slip over the door frame and use leverage to stay in place. That sort of thing is nice if you do not have anywhere to permanently mount a pull up bar. However, the difference in using one of those and using the Stud Bar is like night and day.
First, I only weigh 150 lbs, but the door mounted bar damaged the trim around the door. This made my wife rather unhappy. Second, the door-mounted bars feel secure, but the creaks and groans and the slightly perceptible flex in the metal are disconcerting. Third, the door mounted bar is very close to the door frame, and is relatively narrow. This is a significant problem due to the lack of space to do a variety of exercises.
The Stud bar offers many advantages. I have mine mounted on the wall, above the door in my utility room. It is out of the way yet easily accessible. This thing is ROCK SOLID, even mounted on the wall. No noise, no movement, even when swinging on the bar. Also, it is very wide and sticks out 2 feet (adjustable) from the wall, so there is plenty of room all around. I also use the bar as a solid mounting point for exercise straps when doing my rotator cuff exercises. This is one of my favorite pieces of exercise equipment. (Get it for P90x!)
It installed very easily on the wall, into the studs. My only complaint is that it was made in a foreign land instead of here in the US. I would have paid more for a US-built bar.

Bigger than it states, January 24, 2011
I built a gym in my garage with 10 foot ceilings. So I chose this product figuring it would be a good fit. It hangs down so low that you would hit your head on it if you attached it directly to the ceiling. In order to make it work, I had to run it THROUGH the ceiling over the joices. It worked out great but it's really made for a taller ceiling. Also the bolts seem a little weak.
