Sud Bar Pull Up Bar - excellent product,

This review is from: Stud Bar Pull Up Bar (Sports)
I've made many different pull up bars, trying to save money. Yet this product is worth every penny. It is easy to install and bomber solid. I'm an avid "CrossFitter" - the bar doesn't budge, even with my most violent kipping pull ups.
At first, the bar was a bit too smooth for my taste. A bit of fine grain sand paper gave it a more secure feel for me. I highly recommend it to anyone in search of a rock solid pull up bar.

Previously I had one of those pull up bars that slip over the door frame and use leverage to stay in place. That sort of thing is nice if you do not have anywhere to permanently mount a pull up bar. However, the difference in using one of those and using the Stud Bar is like night and day.
First, I only weigh 150 lbs, but the door mounted bar damaged the trim around the door. This made my wife rather unhappy. Second, the door-mounted bars feel secure, but the creaks and groans and the slightly perceptible flex in the metal are disconcerting. Third, the door mounted bar is very close to the door frame, and is relatively narrow. This is a significant problem due to the lack of space to do a variety of exercises. The Stud bar offers many advantages. I have mine mounted on the wall, above the door in my utility room. It is out of the way yet easily accessible. This thing is ROCK SOLID, even mounted on the wall. No noise, no movement, even when swinging on the bar. Also, it is very wide and sticks out 2 feet (adjustable) from the wall, so there is plenty of room all around. I also use the bar as a solid mounting point for exercise straps when doing my rotator cuff exercises. This is one of my favorite pieces of exercise equipment. (Get it for P90x!) It installed very easily on the wall, into the studs. My only complaint is that it was made in a foreign land instead of here in the US. I would have paid more for a US-built bar.

I built a gym in my garage with 10 foot ceilings. So I chose this product figuring it would be a good fit. It hangs down so low that you would hit your head on it if you attached it directly to the ceiling. In order to make it work, I had to run it THROUGH the ceiling over the joices. It worked out great but it's really made for a taller ceiling. Also the bolts seem a little weak.

This bar is well made and well thought out. Installation is not quick in a finished room, because it is important to center the brackets on your ceiling joists for maximum stability. I recommend cutting the drywall in the ceiling (if you are handy or not worried about over all appearance) to mount the brackets directly to the joists. It would be a snap to install in an unfinished room. Once it is properly installed, it is sturdy and solid. It gives you confidence during your workouts. The 600 lbs capacity may be a stretch, but I can tell you that at 260 lbs, it was not even phased.
Overall, it may be a bit expensive, but it gives you gym quality and should last you a lifetime.

Like other reviewers have stated, this is SOLID! If you're doing P90X, do yourself a favor and spend a few extra dollars and get out of that door frame. You'll be amazed at how much more work you can do on this thing. Once installed, it does not budge. Here are my pros & cons
The good: - SOLID, solid, solid. Oh, did I say it's solid? No side to side swing and definitely no rocking front to back. I have it mounted on drywall in our partially finished room above the garage (So happy to be out of a door frame!). -The welds are tough, the bar is attached securely by bolts -Design is great for stability -Nice powder-coat finish -Bar is just the right thickness for grip -Ability to adjust bar height with different positions depending on your ceiling height. My gripes: -The bar is powder-coated and not knurled. If your hands get the least bit sweaty, goodbye grip! You MUST wear gloves. They should have knurled this bar for the price. I was doing wide grip pulls and my hands slid closer together each rep. I prefer not wearing gloves, but I must. -The included bolts are low quality (more on this below). -No template for mounting. Yes, they have instructions online, but for mounting over drywall they should include a template for pre-drilling holes. It is quite a hassle to measure and try to get it squared up on a ceiling. -This takes me back to the bolts. They do mention not to over torque, but if you pre-drill but end up even slightly off square, snap goes a bolt as it goes in angled. -This is a minor gripe, but the brand stickers were not on well and not square on the down bar and the bar plugs were not in tightly. Mine is even missing one. Not a big deal, but, like I say, for the price I expect the finished product to be finished well. Because of those few things I can't give it 5 stars, as much as I want to. If the bar were knurled, pretty close to perfect!

Fantastic build quality. Mounting hardware is great. This product is everything it should be, and they even offered a size that works on my 10 foot ceiling. I *highly* recommend this product. I do recommend that you have someone experienced (like a "handy man") install it. Or, just make sure you have two ladders and install it with a someone helping you, because it's big, very big, and pretty heavy because it's so sturdy.

We started the PX-90 workout routine and needed a pull up bar. Most of the other products on the market looked far too flimsy while this one looked very sturdy. I as a little intimidated about the installation so paid a handy man a few bucks to do if for me. Couldn't be happier. This bar is rock solid.

I searched for a while before choosing this model. I am pleased with the purchase and think it is a great deal for the money. They have different sizes for all ceiling heights and they included hardware fore wood stud install. The bar is sturdy and handles my weight plus that of a 80 lbs heavy bag with no problem, at the same time. The bar is 1-1/4", which some people don't like and it is powder coated and grip can be effected if you get sweaty. I love the thicker bar and they sell a spray on hand chalk that is not messy and clears up any sweat problems.
Easy install and is solid like models that cost much more. For the money you can't go wrong. |
