5.0 out of 5 stars This is the perfect Bible for young adult readers

2.0 out of 5 stars Lack of plot coupled with bad translation?
I've never really been a fan of The Bible, and The Student NIV is no exception. I really can't fathom what makes it such a great literary work when it has a lacking plot, indecipherable narratives, bad POV changes, and a terribly disconnected ending. I mean, New Jerusalem? Who would buy that? And doesn't one find the idea of streets paved with gold to be outdated...

I recently found Christ and was searching for a Bible that would help me to fully understand the word of God. The Student Bible was so good that it was hard to put down. The introductions and subject index were very helpful, and I love the annotations that apply Bible lessons to everyday young Christian lives. Thanks in no small part to this Bible, which I could fully understand, I am now an active member of my church and community and am exploring career options in the missionary field.

5.0 out of 5 stars A++++++++++ Translation, May 18, 2002
This review is from: The Student Bible (New International Version) (Paperback)
I have always had trouble reading the Bible. The language was always difficult, and even though I went to church and understood the stories, I tended to "get lost" when I was reading the book on my own.

...until I got this Bible.

The Student Bible has, by far, been the easiest read of any Bible that I have ever had the pleasure of reading (and owning). 3 different reading tracks can take you through the key points of the Bible quickly, through every book in a semi-long amount of time, or through every word in the massive book. However, while this comes in handy, what I found most useful was the inserts inside the reading. Constantly throughout, notes have been made, explaining traditions, who people are, and other things that people today might find odd or confusing. For example, in Ezekiel, there is a note that helps explain the afterlife, saying,
"Though eternal life shines through a few Old Testament passages (see "Life after Death," page 581), life after death was extremely vague in most of the Old Testament. The grave was represented by a place called, "Sheol." The fate of the nations described here as "within the grave" gives a vivid, eerie sense of death."

These notes, along with advisements at the beginning of each book, help provide additional information and assist in the comprehension of events and ideas. This Bible also has a helpful glossary, a lineup of rulers, a subject guide, and maps that pinpoint places and journeys (among these are the Land of the Twelve Thieves, the Kingdom of David and Solomon, Jerusalem in Jesus' Time, Jesus' Ministry, and much more!) This Bible is awesome! It has been the only version that I have been able to read consistently and understandably! A+++++++++++++++++++

5.0 out of 5 stars A clear, easy way to study the Holy Bible, July 31, 1998
This review is from: The Student Bible (New International Version) (Paperback)
The Student Bible is a must for everyone who wants to learn more about Christianity. It includes both the Old and New Testement, and has excellent noted and annotations to help you understand it better. The 3-track reading program also offers a superb way to cover all books of the bible over weeks, months or years.. it's up to you. Tremendous; I received mine as a gift, but I urge you to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are looking for a great starting point, read this!, January 20, 2000

This review is from: The Student Bible (New International Version) (Paperback)
I have often tried to read the bible and got discouraged with trying to understand what it was saying. This version of the Bible is perfect for me! I am so intriqued that I have a hard time putting it down. The profiles of important characters and the different study course outlines were some of my favorite tools that were lacking in other versions. This is well-worth the expense and your time!

4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Bible for those with little time, November 30, 1999
This review is from: The Student Bible (New International Version) (Paperback)
This book is great! I wanted to read the Bible, but I am a student, so time is definetly an issue, the content of the book is so well written that when I did have time I could pick it up remember what I had read before and continue reading without having to stop an try to figure out the meaning of words or phrases. So in short it's a well organized, well written and well broken down edition of the Bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a Bible That Understands Me!, May 31, 1999
By

This review is from: The Student Bible (New International Version) (Paperback)
The authors of this Bible understood that the #1 reason that people do not read the bible is discouragement. I'll admit, everytime I set out to get through this entire work I get caught up only a few chapters after Genesis and quit. As a result, they've set up a three-track reading program that lets you decide how to worship in your home. It's side-notes and subject index with character profiles also greatly help increase understanding with the more difficult passages. I would seriously reccommend this bible to anyone who needs a little help getting started.

The Student Bible is a good choice for those who would like to learn more about the Word of God, but don't know where to start, or how to continue. My parents gave me a copy almost ten years ago, and although it's quite battered by now, it's still the Bible I carry to church and use during my personal devotions, although I've collected others over the years. The Insights and Highlights are really helpful, as they often turn up at a tricky or confusing point to shed light on the issue. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wondrous Version of the Bible, January 28, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The Student Bible (New International Version) (Paperback)
Some people say, a Bible is a Bible is a Bible. However, this version is FANTASTIC! Not only is there the full text of the Bible, but there are also short passages throughout the text to clarify meanings. Many people don't have a clue about who's who in the Bible. Well, this book also has summaries of 100 people you should know, different teachings, and load of maps. Not only that, but with different reading track options you can read through the Bible with ease, either the whole text or on specific subjects. Being the New International Version, the most accurate yet, this is a FABULOUS Bibl

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BIBLE!!!!, November 21, 2010
This review is from: The Student Bible (New International Version) (Paperback)
I am sixteen years old, and decided I wanted a bible that would help me understand more of what I was reading and to learn more about some of the people in the Bible. THIS BIBLE IS PERFECT! It has so many different reading track plans depending on what you want to learn, and how long you want to commit to a plan. It is AMAZING! There are notes on every page describing what each book in the bible is about, and side notes about certain passages, as well as introductions to important people in the bible. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the reference in the back, where I can look up key words and find passages that relate to the word. It's very helpful for when I want a passage for a specific reason.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY NEW BIBLE!!!!!
