More About the Author

Linda Pierce Picciotto taught primary classes at South Park School, a parent-involved public school in Victoria, British Columbia, for 25 years. During that time she developed some programs that were very successful and popular with students and their parents. The programs are open-ended, so they build skills and encourage creativity in all students.

She has published these programs in various forms, and a large numbers of teachers throughout North America have adapted them in their own classrooms. Scholastic Books sold many thousands of the three titles they published-- Evaluation: A Team Effort, Learning Together (US title: Managing an Integrated Language Arts Program,) and Student-Led Parent Conferences. Some of these can be found on the Amazon web site.

Now retired, she is continuing to write books and articles for primary teachers. The programs she describes are "ready to go" for busy teachers, and many include forms for them to use or adapt. Most of these are now available as ebooks. Some are updates of the popular Scholastic books (Student-Led Parent Conferences, Gathering Information About Our Students) and some describe new programs, such as Scientist of the Day and Art and Writing ideas.

Linda is happy to share her experiences and ideas with teachers, and hopes that they and their students will find them useful and enjoyable.

I am a first-grade teacher in Palo Alto, California. When I was first interested in experimenting with student-led parent conferences, I came across this book and found it to be a wonderful resource. It was extremely easy to read, and it was full of great ideas for ACTUALLY IMPLEMENTING student-led conferences in my own classroom. I especially appreciated the many real-life classroom examples, taken from the author's own experiences. I now incorporate student-led parent conferences as part of my program, and the parents love it!! I can't recommend this book enough for any teacher interested in student-led parent conferences.
