First class recording of superb music!, May 10, 1999

I fell in love with the music of The Student Prince the first time I saw it performed over 25 years ago. I came across this recording through an on-line search of amazon.com. I had my doubts when the CD arrived. Not only did I fail to recognize any "big names", but the Ambrosian Chorus is usually not associated with excellence in my mind. What a surprise when I finally listened to the recording! The voices are perfectly blended with excellent diction and just the right level of dramatic interpretation. The orchestrations are also excellent and the fidelity is quite good, even for an "off brand" label. The highlight has to be "Deep in My Heart, Dear", the fabulous duet between the ill-fated lovers. I would highly recommend this recording. It is a true value for any Sigmund Romberg fan.
