About the Author

For 27 years, Tony Newsom has dedicated his life and career to protecting and servicing those in the community by using frontline crime prevention measures and safety techniques as a LAPD Officer and professional bodygaurd. He is also a devoted, determined husband and a father with a vested interest in making the world a safer place. What is most compelling about Newsom is his proactive approach to safety, his myth-busters, and armory of effective tools and tips and his ability to talk to audiences of any age, even little children, and truly penetrate and resonate. He doesn t waste time or bore with useless, watered down safety stories and information. A mountain of energy and enthusiasm, Newsom cuts through the fluff and passivity when it comes to safety and is maniacally focused on creating an active, effective game plan with specifics. He swiftly illustrates the danger in the widespread naiveté and false perception that many people have about living in Mr. Roger s Neighborhood or their very own Pleasantville. Growing up in South Central LA, literally where the epicenter of the 1992 LA Riots took place, Newsom knows first hand the nomadic nature of crime, how it operates, spreads, and continues to reinvent itself. He is committed to updating the prescription of the rose-colored glasses that most of us walk around wearing when it comes to a false sense of safety, and restoring a clear, potent lens that reveals a true vision of how dangerous our world has become. However, Newsom isn t an alarmist or a shock jock of sorts. He is an excitable, optimistic individual who genuinely wants to tell innocent civilians, including children, how to think like a cop and elevate personal protection. He is quick to debunk misnomers such as why the concept of telling your kids don t talk to strangers is an ineffective protection strategy that often fails. As an emerging author, he pointedly outlines the conversations about strangers, victims, and crime that each and every parent and educator should be having at home with their children and amongst themselves. Each book is written specifically for the audience it s addressing whether it is adults, especially women, to kids ranging from first graders to college students. Newsom gives each audience a road map detailing what to do and how to do it. You will find yourself riveted and glued to the pages of his books as he sits down with convicted criminals who candidly share real life stories including exactly how they think, act, and pursue victims. Newsom shares with his readers the same safety and crime prevention techniques that law enforcement officers learn through years of training and first-hand frontline experience. As President and Founder of the ASL "The Academy of Safer Living" (www.asl911.com), Newsom s number one goal is to teach you to think like a cop and to make sure everyone understands that each and every one of us is a potential target, why that is, and how to more effectively protect ourselves. Newsom is committed to providing free safety tips and resources to insure protection for everyone.
