5.0 out of 5 stars Must read for student affair professionals, December 8, 2000
This is the textbook of my class in college student development. This is a must read book for all the people who interest in the student services. It does not contain a lot of student develop theories, but it mentions all the aspects of student services from college student development theories, learning theories, to the function of student affairs and human resources in higher education. Even though you may not have time to read through this book, it can be a good handbook for you. You will find this book as a good reference in your professional life. For people who interest in the theory, I suggest you read this book with the other book "Student development in college: Theory, research, and practice" by Nancy J. Evans, Deanna S. Forney, and Florence Guido-DiBrito.

4.0 out of 5 stars Your standard book for higher education graduate students, January 5, 2012
This review is from: Student Services: A Handbook for the Profession (Jossey-Bass Higher and Adult Education Series) (Hardcover)
My wife and I both went to graduate school for a masters degree in higher education. We went to two different institutions. I went to a private Christian university. She went to a public land-grant university. This book is a great introduction to student services, how they look and how they function on campuses. We both kept our copies yet I don't think we have ever opened them since graduating, though I did refer to this book throughout my studies.

My suggest to graduate students: buy the book. Don't just share it other students, this book is significant for your graduate studies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Student Services, December 21, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Student Services: A Handbook for the Profession (Jossey-Bass Higher and Adult Education Series) (Hardcover)
This text is good introduction for anyone interested in the field of Student Services on a college campus or as a refresher to those already in the profession. It gives real-world examples of issues and challenges commonly encountered by Student Affairs professionals. The text is an easy read once you get used to the authors' style, though skimming is highly recommended in some portions and it does repeat itself in places.
