Excellent Resource for Singers,
By J. Shapiro (Schenectady, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Student Voice: An Introduction to Developing the Singing Voice (Paperback)
Now I would like to put it out there that I got this from the library, and I am not sure whether I would have purchased it for $35. However, if you have the money to purchase this book, DO SO! The title is misleading, and makes it sound like a basic singing book without much grounding in scientific research and explanations. This is quite the contrary. The author, Colin Baldy, does an excellent job with explaining the concepts necessary to understand to become a better singer.
I believe that Baldy's book would be incredibly useful to any future Music Educator, Voice Teacher, or a singer who wishes to advance his or her skills. Baldy not only explains his opinions on vocal pedagogy, but also provides great diagrams of the vocal mechanism, and helpful vocal exercises to strengthen and refine the voice. Overall Quality of the Book: 5 Stars! Content: 5 Stars Diagrams: 4 Stars Vocal Exercises: 5 Stars Value: 3.5 Stars (c'mon Amazon, 35 dollars for a 130 page book is fairly expensive). |
