Book Description

0070114102 978-0070114104 December 1, 1985
This rhetoric with readings offers a balanced emphasis on both the writing process and the final, written product. With the thought that students must learn to identify their own process, revision is emphasized with a range of strategies. Many procedures for idea generation, organizing, drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading are presented within the context of the rhetorical modes as patterns for thought. Readings include both professsional and student essays. It provides a balanced emphasis on helping each student find his/her own process and the final written product. Specially emphasizes revision, explaining a range of revision strategies and options. Included is coverage of peer review and collaboration, and contemporary pedagogical techniques often difficult to teach if unassisted by written support. Also incorporated are examples of both professional (2/3 of readings) and student (1/3 of readings) essays, providing useful models and springboards for discussion and analysis. The book expands upon treatment of argumentation by using both professional and student models to illustrate that effective arguments combine elements of rhetorical strategies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Essay writing., January 29, 2009
I do not like writing or any of my English classes. But thanks to this book, I can now write winning essays. It shows you step by step how to organize writing ideas and put them together in a readable fashion. Keys for Writers is also a good supplement with this book.

I first used an earlier edition of this when I "inherited" a course. Although I have looked at other books for the course, this is the one I always come back to.

I received the textbook is good condition. I was not looking for perfection because it is a used book and that is the risk that is taken in this form of purchasing. Thanks for having this book and I will be using it because the instructor of the class said that this book should become the bible of writing. It shall become that. I wish say again THANKS.
