This review is from: Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders : Effective Instructional Practices (Paperback)
This book is very well written, with all the info needed for my class. I would recommend this book for anyone who works with or is a parent of an autistic individual.

I used this book for two graduate classes. It was great and very informative. I was actually taught both courses by one of the authors.

Decent autism text, July 18, 2010
This review is from: Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders : Effective Instructional Practices (Paperback)
I used this text in one of my graduate classes, and it was very useful. Here are the brief contents:
1. Identifying and Describing Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders
2. Historical Perspectives and Etiology of Autism Spectrum Disorders
3. Collaborating to Develop Effective Programs
4. Creating Contexts for Instruction
5. Accommodating Sensory Issues
6. Using Applied Behavior Analytic Instructional Strategies
7. Programming for Challenging Behavior
8. Encouraging Communication and Verbal Behavior
9. Enhancing Socialization and Social Competence
10. Promoting Academic Skill Acquisition
11. Organizing Instructional Opportunities in Nonacademic Environments
Throughout the book (and wrapped up in the epilogue) is the fictional story of Ms. Harris, a new college graduate who is learning to teach students with autism. I think those features helped provide real-life context for the content in the text.
All that said, I don't think it was the best autism text I've used. I would recommend
Autism: Teaching Does Make a Difference over this one. This one isn't bad, though; the other one is just better and more comprehensive.
