4.0 out of 5 stars Not the Bible?
Many people think that the NLT version is "bad" because it is not the Bible. It is, just not the NKJ version. I have always had a hard time understanding The Word, and this version was wonderful for me.

I got it just yesterday, and haven't read much of it, but I love the format and all the notes. I wold have given it 5 stars, but since I have had it for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent study bible
I purchased this book for as I looked around trying to find a good study bible which teens would enjoy reading. I had thought this would be perfect, but most of the additional information is either too short or not very interesting. In the end it never ended up on the shelves of our youth group room.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the Bible?, July 7, 2000
Many people think that the NLT version is "bad" because it is not the Bible. It is, just not the NKJ version. I have always had a hard time understanding The Word, and this version was wonderful for me.

I got it just yesterday, and haven't read much of it, but I love the format and all the notes. I wold have given it 5 stars, but since I have had it for only a very short time, I don't know if I won't like it as much later.

I have read, and also used the devotions in The New Believer's Bible. People are dissing that one, too! I think for new believers, children, and teens, the NLT is an easy-to-read bible. If I tried reading the KJV as a new believer, child, or teen I'd freak out. The thee's, thou's, thy's, etc., and the other words that are beginning to be less used, and even less "understandable", would make it hard for me to concentrate on God's love letter to me. I would be too focused on trying to understand the language! Even the NIV is sometimes too hard for me to understand!

This is a wonderful version for all those teens out there who want to read the Bible, but can't find the time. If you have a good Bible and are thirsty enough for God's Word, all of a sudden, there will be time! There was time all along, you know, you just didn't WANT to!

5.0 out of 5 stars Youth Leader Endorsement, May 25, 2001
By
Robert Torres (San Francisco, California USA) - See all my reviews
I have been in youth ministry for 5 years now. I have been offered many different kinds of teen study Bibles. My youth love this Bible a lot. They tell me it encourages them to read this Bible because they can completely understand it. They love all the commentary and all those special little tidbits directed to teens for today's living. I also praise God that there is a version of the Bible they can understand and feel encouraged about. I used to be critical about the New Living Translation. When I was a kid the New International Version was considered a bad thing. But reading the NIV version has been a help to me. I now think all that matters is that these kids enjoy reading a translation of the Bible they feel comfortable reading. This translation is sound and a blessing to teens everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Avid Reader and Christian, January 22, 2001

This is the best Bible format and language I've ever read. It gives a clear interpretation of what the Bible says about important issues surrounding teens today, such as abortion, homosexuality, creation, etc. It also highlights key verses and gives profiles of important biblical figures. The wordage is easy to read and understand, and tells the reader what the Bible is saying in modern English. It is a great study and reading Bible for any teen, and I give it two thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Changing lives, March 5, 1999
By A Customer
This Bible is one of the best ones I have ever seen. The way it is put together allows the reader to become excited about reading God's word. The inserts from other teenagers helps me apply God's word to my life. I used to have a hard time reading the Word daily, but now I am so excited that I can't wait to read the Bible. This Bible is helping me to learn more about God, and how to live the life Christ wants me to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, June 19, 2000

This is an excellant bible: they didnt call it "Life Application" for no reason! The graphics which display important verses, the guides for study, and the many helpful indexes in the back of the book are excellant! It also has notes on special verses, "Here's what I did" sections, and articles on "Ultimate Issues" such as jesus and morals! That makes it my number one choice bible for any teen...

This Bible is an excellent resource for working with youth. I use its side bar explanations and stories frequently. No youth leader should be without it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Bible!, May 1, 2004
By
This is an excellent bible for students and adults alike! The translation is amazing (my favorite) because it's not only exceptionally accurate (translated from the Greek & Hebrew text) but also written in conversational everyday English, so it's like a breath of fresh air you totally understand what your reading. And when it comes right down to it that's exactly the way Paul wrote his epistle's to the people - in everday common Greek language that people used on the street. And isn't that the point to read God's word in everyday speech so you can understand and apply what you've read.

Content wise it's amazing and presented in a very graphically pleasing and easy to read manner. Very attractive. There are book intro's, life application notes in the text, relevant "Ultimate Issues" articles, "Here's what I did" articles of students and how they lived out the word in their lives, "I wonder" articles, "Moral Dilemma" notes of real life case studies where young people had to make important decisions, "Personality Profiles" of bible people, "MegaThemes" at end of each book are study questions on the main themes of that book, also there are charts, maps and artistically designed memory verses. The content is so personal and applicable for student and adult alike. And graphically it's such a treat to read.

The only drawback I have with this bible and a pet peeve of mine with Tyndale's bible design's is that I wish they would go all the way on their design. They always do something to short change it. In this case and in most cases with them they could have gone all the way and printed with two colors as opposed to one color black. Also, they could have used better quality whiter/thinner paper. I love thin paged bibles and I know alot of bible readers do. Those two drawbacks is the reason why I didn't give this bible the full 5 stars treatment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, April 2, 2002
By A Customer
This Bible is wonderful! It is easily understood and written in plain language and not Biblical language, ie., thee, thou, ye, etc. It is like reading a story in a regular book. It also has examples of how teens handled encounters and also how to handle future problems that might come up. I would recommend this Bible not only for students, but also for older people too. I've purchased four for my family members.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BIBLE, July 8, 2007
Even though I was given a Bible as a child, I tried to read it but it didn't make sense to me. When I started going to church with a friend as an adult, I knew I wanted my own Bible to make my own notes in it. I went to the bookstore and bought this one. It is clearly written in plain English so I can understand it. And even though its a thick book, its not that heavy. You dont need to be a teenager to buy it, sometimes its even easier when you're first starting out. This is a great Bible, buy it, you wont regret it :).
