2.0 out of 5 stars Good but hard to find things in it., June 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Student's Shop Reference Handbook (Paperback)
The book has a lot of usefull information. It is a good reference book for machining however it is a bit outdated as it devotes pages and pages to calculations that a $10 calculator can do. It is also very difficult to find anything in the book. The table of contents is 10 lines long and the index very very brief. Areas of shapes cover several pages in the book and "areas" does not even feature in the index ??

I am pleased I bought it but I will propably create my own table of contents so I can find things.

4.0 out of 5 stars a good companion to "Machinery's Handbook"...., November 8, 2010

however, make no mistake, it is no true replacement for the 2028 page monster known as the 28th edition of Machinery's. you might try to think of this book as sort of the Cliff's notes of the machinist's bible and you will get a good idea of the contents, which consists almost entirely of the tables, but not all of them. the previous review by "a customer" slammed this book for having trig calculations and whatnot, but one must take into consideration that not only was much of this information compiled and edited long before WWII, but this student guide is MUCH easier to navigate than Machiery's, so it remains a useful tool for that reason alone.
