Some of the problems in the text require a lot of thought to solve. One may even solve a problem without setting up the problem in the right way, and then walk away thinking one knows when one is ignorant. With the manual one eliminates this problem. I highly recommend the manual because it is of the utmost importance to understand how to set up and solve the problems correctly and efficiently. Also, how much time would be wasted looking for the right technique if one set up the problem correctly, but committed a math error? The textbook only gives the answers, but having the guide leads to correct problem-solving-thinking. I got an A in calc. a few years ago, but need to brush up for grad. school. The manual is like my own tutor. Applied calculus means lots and lots of word problems. It is preferable to have a how to manual at one's side when doing the problems. No doubt about it. Also, I only gave 4 stars since I didn't finish the book yet, and most books do have imperfections. I might upgrade my rating after finishing the book this summer. It has already saved me a lot of time. A final note on shipping: The book arrived way before I expected it to :)

The book is a basic College Calculus book. Effective easy enough to follow with a good professor or teacher's assistant.

99.9% of the solutions are for the odd problems which you can just get from the back of the textbook. don't get it
