4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
Bought this book for an Abnormal Psych class and it's awesome! Doesn't feel like reading a textbook; the authors give a very in-depth description of each case (Symptoms, Social History, Diagnosis, Treatment, Discussion, etc) and explain each section in a way that is clear and easy to read. A little on the pricier side but definitely worth it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Case Studies???
This book has some incredibly insightful, well researched cases, which are marred by some so-called 'case studies' that are nothing more than postulations based on opinions, NOT case studies! One `case study' is based on a childhood acquaintance and could only be further away from being described as a `case study' if the subject had been an imaginary one. Another case...

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth It, December 31, 2011

Though I've not been through all the cases in this book as of this review, those I have read thus far have proven to be very informative. The cases themselves as well as the history, etiology, discussions and treatment are fascinating. In this book you will find conditions that fit someone you know or have known, maybe even yourself at some point in your life. My experience with major depressive disorder (296.2/DSM IV) a few years ago was brought into a new light by the case described in this book. It helped me understand my condition and why it developed as it did. As a sidenote, I gradually stopped my Lexapro after about 14 months and no longer need or want an anti-depressant. Anyone interested in abnormal psychology, whether a layperson or clinician will find this book educational and a good read.

An otherwise difficult content for course material in a very easy & readable format. Great description and anecdotal notes follow each case study.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thanks for the quick delivery, December 1, 2011

I received the book about a week ago and I am very pleased with the condition of the book and the fact it is not marked up with a bunch of highlights. It was important to me to receive a quality book at a better price because not everyone can afford brand new and I will not be distracted from markings that I did not make. Thank you for the timely shipment of the book because if it would not have meet with my expectations I would have had time to replace it. I would highly recommend anyone to buy a book from you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Case Studies???, February 11, 2008
This book has some incredibly insightful, well researched cases, which are marred by some so-called 'case studies' that are nothing more than postulations based on opinions, NOT case studies! One `case study' is based on a childhood acquaintance and could only be further away from being described as a `case study' if the subject had been an imaginary one. Another case study demonstrated that clearly the disorder has not only been poorly researched, but also includes heresy that defies medical fact (see Gender Identity Disorder).

I believe at least three chapters should be culled from this book, at the VERY least. It ranges from 5 stars for the Separation Anxiety Disorder case study, to 1 star for the Antisocial Personality Disorder `case study'. The Gender Identity Disorder was about a 2 star effort, in my opinion.

Finally, case studies should be just that, case studies, not manufactured ones for the sake of having them in the book. I expected something insightful and interesting, but ended up disappointed and feeling I had been mislead. It's interesting that the best case study was the last one in the book, at least that took a little of the foul taste out of it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting, March 1, 2011

This review is from: Case Studies in Abnormal Psychology (Paperback)
The book advertisement led me to believe that it was broke down in simpler terms for each case study. I was searching for one for high school student's. I will have to break these down and type everything I need for them because it is way over their head.
