Berkouwer's anthropological bombshell!,

Though slightly dated (copyright 1962), Berkouwer's volume is a must read for someone desiring to investigate this biblical idea of the image of God. This work is a bit technical and thick at times, but most definitely worth the read. He is astutely theological, and constantly biblical throughout the book. I especially liked the 2nd chapter, since it gave a lucid and helpful overview of the historical development of the doctrine. For anyone reading Genesis 1 who has an itch to investigate this "image" in thorough theological detail, I recommend Berkouwer's book strongly.
