5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Study of Flood Geology
I have a good amount of geological knowledge, including field experience, and I can testify to the fact that this compilation of studies is on the cutting edge of Flood geology. Although detailed, these studies show that scientific creationists do in fact perform original geologic research, contrary to the claims of critics.

3.0 out of 5 stars I am not a scientist
Although I had high hopes for this book and have read many like it, it was entirely too technical for me. To be honest, only a scientist could fully appreciate it. Other than that, it is a very interesting book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Reference Work, July 5, 2001
By

This review is from: Studies in Flood Geology a Compilation of Research Studies Supporting (Paperback)
John demonstrates in this book that Flood geology is a exceedingly rewarding model within which to correlate all the geological data. Any new paradigm that challenges mainstream academic thinking is bound to encounter criticism. But when a new idea strikes at the heart of ones personal and religious beliefs, as Flood geology does, the criticism can be harsh. All geologists would benefit by understanding the concepts developed in this book. Especially valuable would be the exercise of interpreting geological data within a wholly different framework.

A comprehensive index makes the volume especially useful. Almost any issue related to Flood geology is tackled in a sound, scientific way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource Book for New Ideas!, October 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Studies in Flood Geology a Compilation of Research Studies Supporting (Paperback)
This book is a compilation of scientific articles from various sources written by John Woodmorappe between 1978 and 1993. Many of the articles address problems and challenges that have been put forth against the Young Earth Creationist paradigm. The second edition of the book has been greatly enhanced by the inclusion of an index. All of the articles are well researched and thoroughly referenced. The articles contained within this volume help delineate problems within the Young Earth Creationist paradigm and suggest possible solutions to them. John attacks problems like radioactive dating, cyclic sedimentation, the "geologic column," the Flood, and various evolutionary issues. The articles should stimulate anyone reading them to a deeper level of thought about these issues, no matter what their perspective on earth history may be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource Book, September 28, 2000
By

This review is from: Studies in Flood Geology a Compilation of Research Studies Supporting (Paperback)
This Comilation of research studies by John Woodmorappe is an excellent resource book for either creationist or evolutionist! It is excellent for the creationist as it demonstrates causes for the biogeographic distribution of land vertebrates after the Flood. He discusses the antediluvian bioshere and its capability of supplying the fossil record, the stratigraphic separation of fossils based on a diluviological model, a quantitative assessment of the nonexistence of the standard evolutionary geologic column, radiometric geochronology is reappraised, the cephalopods, and a diluvian interpretation of ancient cyclic sedimentation. Creation Research at its best! For the evolutionist it offers much information, plus this: It has been said that those who do not know their opponent's arguments do not completely understand their own. By better understanding the creation model, the evolutionist can better understand his own model and his own arguments! Great Reading! A must for both sides of this important issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable resource, November 20, 2000
By
This review is from: Studies in Flood Geology a Compilation of Research Studies Supporting (Paperback)
I frequently browse this book for valuable information concerning creation-evolution and geology. John has done a thorough job researching this subject, exploring almost every question that comes up regarding the geologic column. His maps showing the areas of the world missing parts of the geologic column illustrate the inadequacy of its explanatory power. He also covers the subject of radiometric dating, and gives an explanation of why fossils are found in a certain order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compilation of in-depth studies in origins research., September 29, 2000

John Woodmorappe has a reputation for indefatiguable, comprehensive research once he sets his mind to a topic. This compilation of peer-reviewed papers in geology, geochronology and paleontology shows that again. Studies in Flood Geology is a valuable tool for students of origins research, and a springboard for further research in these areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alternative to Evolution-based Earth History, September 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Studies in Flood Geology a Compilation of Research Studies Supporting (Paperback)
In this excellent work Mr. Woodmorappe tackles many subjects which, in the past, presented problems to individuals seeking a direct correlation between Earth history and the Bible. The book encompasses many different topics all of which have relevance to the evolution versus creation debate. I like this book because it shows how different interpretations can yield different results - all from the same set of data. It is a technical geological work. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about how the data speaks to a young earth and global Flood.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Revolution in Geology, November 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Studies in Flood Geology a Compilation of Research Studies Supporting (Paperback)
Flood geology and catastrophism were once widely accepted among
geologists and most non scientists until Charles Lyell and Charles
Darwin's work in the middle 1800s. Furthermore, until Darwin, most
geological events were interpreted in harmony with a flood geology
catastrophism framework. For the next century uniformitarianism
dominated geology. The last 30 years has seen a major reassurance of
catastrophism such as the work by Kenneth J. Hsu, David Raup, and the
Alvarez father and son team. Woodmorappe's work is one more nail in
the coffin of Doctrinaire uniformitarianism. Woodmorappe's work is a
collection of separate chapters each which can stand alone, many
containing hundreds of references (one chapter contains 445
references) which alone make the book well worth while. While some
may disagree with the author's conclusions, this work contains a
wealth of stimulating material and is must reading for anyone involved
in, or interested in, the uniformitarianism-catastrophism controversy.
It is also critical reading (as are works by the authors noted above)
for those interested in the creation-evolution controversy. The book
is well illustrated and indexed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Whole New Way of Looking at Earth's History, May 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Studies in Flood Geology a Compilation of Research Studies Supporting (Paperback)
I am of the Greek Orthodox faith, and I have never seen a book like this before. The author shows how Noah's Flood covered the whole earth, and how it shaped earth's geology. A lot of original thinking obviously went into writing this unique book, and the author has obviously spent a lot of time researching this topic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Serious Creationist Research, May 10, 2002

This work is an excellent way to show that evolutionists who claim "creationists don't do any research" is an obviously false claim. John Woodmorappe has been a dedicated Creation scientist, with important publications such as "The Myth of Modern Dating Methods" and "Noah's Ark: A Feasibility Study". Although I still believe that the flood model has a long way to go, John contributes an impressive effort in order to help our Biblical understanding of the past improve. The study on the geological column is a very important issue, and Woodmorappe offers an excellent chapter dealing with the "Essential Nonexistance" of the geological column.

I have two problems with this work, however. One is that there are too many quotations used, and the other is that the material is a bit outdated in some areas. However, the book is a worthwhile addition to Creationist studies.
