1896. The present volume grew out of an essay written for the Senior Kennicott Scholarship in 1893. Comparatively little had been done in the way of a systematic treatment of the text of the Old Testament proper names. In discussions where so much often turns on the form of the name, it seemed desirable to give the Hebrew characters rather than a transliteration.
