5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent description of how music therapy is practiced, July 31, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Case Studies in Music Therapy (Paperback)
This book is a great resource for anyone with an interest in music therapy.
I am a music therapist, practicing now for about 6 years. I often refer to this book for new ideas for my practice. I also loan this book to any friend or colleague who really wants to know what music therapy is about.
The introduction itself is probably the best and most concise description of music therapy practice.
The case studies have been chosen for quality, depth, and maximum variety of technique and philosophy. One appendix contains an index which refers to the case studies by philosophical orientation, which I found both fascinating and useful.
The only possible change I might suggest would be to refer to page number rather than "case study number" in the index, which is a little confusing.
In all, a great reference and a fascinating, enlightening read. This book is one of the prizes of my bookshelf.<P

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Intro Book, October 20, 2005
This review is from: Case Studies in Music Therapy (Paperback)
I bought this book because I was interested in the field of Music Therapy. I was also doing a project on the topic and this book says it all. It introduces the reader to the field of music therapy in a very understandable way. The case studies are great learning tools as well. I highly suggest this book to anyone interested in learning about Music Therapy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive music therapy resource, December 15, 2007
This review is from: Case Studies in Music Therapy (Paperback)
Of all of the books I own about music therapy, this is by far my favorite and the most used of any of them. During my graduate training in music therapy, I referred to this book many times. It is not only informative, educational and an amazing reference on many different types of music therapy, but it's enjoyable to read, creative and many times quite moving.

Although an in-depth clinical resource, it also could convey clearly to the layperson what music therapy is all about. Additionally, the loving care these therapists put into their work with the clients comes across on every page.

Drawings, musical notations, extensive bibliographies and indexes all add to the usefulness of this book. Although published over 15 years ago, the material rings fresh, new and true all throughout. I can't say enough about this book!

As a music therapist in training, you might be required to buy this book, and I can tell you that you will not regret one penny you spend on it.
My only wish would be that they come out with more volumes of this wonderful resource and maybe an indestructible version, because mine is very well worn. This is one book I will never part with.
