finally, a home bible study that helps you learn your bible!,
By Cindy (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Studies in the Scriptures (6 Volumes) (Hardcover)
I have read all seven books in this series and give high praises to the Lord for giving us this meat in due season. Broken down into seven books covering varying topics from the setting up of the Kingdom of God ("Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven...") to the battle of armageddon to what is expected scripturally of a Christian in his or her walk with the Lord (The New Creation), these books cover just about every facet of the bible relevant to the Christian today. Charles T. Russell was also ahead of his time when in 1910 he "predicted" from bible prophecy the return of the Jewish people to the homeland. He died in 1916, and Israel became a nation in 1948. Only God knows the beginning from the end, and could give such insight to a loyal servant. I have been extremely blessed by the messages in these books and after looking up each and every scripture as I read, I have good grasp on what the bible does and does not say. These books are for the serious bible student. If you are interested in an in-depth study of God's word and works, these are definitely the books for you! Lord Bless your studies.

The Early Beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Studies in the Scriptures (6 Volumes) (Hardcover)
Charles T. Russell's famous bible study series that gave great impetus to the preaching work of Jehovah's Witnesses during the early days of their modern history in the late 19th and early 20th century.Although there has been numerous changes in Jehovah's Witnesses teachings since that time as the 'light gets brighter and brighter' (Prov. 4:18) many of the fundamental teachings from that time, that distinguish Jehovah's Witnesses from other religions, remain essentially unchanged. These fundamental Bible based teachings and others are found in this series written by Charles T. Russell the 1st president of the Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society: [1] Jehovah is Almighty God not part of a Trinity, the Son was God's first creation, holy spirit is not a person but a force from God. - The Atonement Between God and Man, chaps. 2, 3, 8. [2] God's Kingdom is a real government that will rule from heaven over the earth. - The Divine Plan of the Ages, Chap. 14. [3] The soul is not immortal and the dead are unconscious awaitng a resurrection. - The Atonement Between God and Man, chap. 12. [4] The earth will be made into a paradise home for mankind. - The Battle of Armageddon, chap. 14. [5] The year 1914 marked the end of the the Gentile times - The Time is At Hand, chap. 4. Of course since Russell's time Jehovah's Witnesses have gained a better understanding of the Bible so numerous explanations in this series have been abandoned. A example of this is in "Thy Kingdom Come", chap. 10, which deals with the belief that the Great Pyramid of Egypt was an extrabiblical sign given by God to aid people to have faith in the Bible. Jehovah's Witnesses no longer believe the Great Pyramid has anything to do with God or the Bible. "Studies in the Scriptures" was very helpful in its time in helping many acquire a better understanding of the Bible. However, its time has passed so it will not aid you to gain an up to date understanding of the Scriptures. However, if you are interested in the history of Jehovah's Witnesses, this series is a must for your library.

I was very happy with the books. They are new and at a very reasonable price. It is very difficult to find all 7 antique books.

The Truth,

This review is from: Studies in the Scriptures (6 Volumes) (Hardcover)
This book is really awesome, i got so many of them and also recommended many of my friends to read it. This book is exceptional compared to all other normal christian books, it talks about the real faith and our role in God's plan.I can understand that this book will be an eye opener for any one who uses it. I dont say that this book is perfect, but it is really a key to understand the bible more and more. Hope all who buys will be blessed spiritually and will be matured in their faith...

Great Resource for Christians,
This review is from: Studies in the Scriptures (6 Volumes) (Hardcover)
I give this Volume 4 stars instead of 5 becuase is does not include the original forwards to these volumes which were witten by Russell too. The previews are even more eye opening that the rest. Still, these books contain a wealth of information about how confused the leadership of this organization was in its begining with regard to doctrine, date setting, and prophecy. Russel was to be Jehovah's prophet to dispense the truth. His information was supposed to come directly either from Jehovah himselph or angelic messenger. When it comes to Biblical propphecy there is no room whatsover for the prophesy not coming to pass. NO mistakes are allowed. The light does not get "brighter and brighter" for a prophecy spoken in the name of the LORD that does not come to pass. That is a false prophecy. Just two examples: Russell taught that all worldly kingdoms will end in 1914 and the Church of Christ will be set up with Christ as head. (S. in S., Vol II, p. 170.) He prophesied that all denominations would cease to exist in 1914.(Studies in the Scriptures, Vol. III, page 153-155; Vol. 2, p. 245.) Russell also taught that one would be better off studying these series of books than studying the BIBLE. QUOTE -- "If the six volumes of 'Scripture Studies' are practically the Bible, topically arranged with Bible proof texts given, we might not improperly name the volumes 'The Bible in an arranged form.' That is to say, They are not mere comments on the Bible, but they are practically the Bible itself. Furthermore, not only do we find that people cannot see the divine plan in studying the Bible by itself, but we see, also, that if anyone lays the 'Scripture Studies' aside, even after he has used them, after he has become familiar with them, after he has read them for ten years -- if he lays them aside and ignores them and goes to the Bible alone, though he has understood the Bible for ten years, our experience shows that within two years he goes into darkness. On the other hand, if he had merely read the 'Scripture Studies' with their references and had not read a page of the Bible as such, he would have the light of the Scriptures." ("The Watchtower," September 15, 1910, p. 298. So I guess when it comes down to it, if you have to choose between the Volumes and the Bible there's no question which to choose (according to the Watchtower). Amazingly, if you study the organizations history, these books are just the tip of the iceberg of erronious teachings that have nothing to do with the Bible and everything to do with a man made organization's attempt at controlling peoples lives. It's almost laughable that so many Christian's are still intimidated by this stuff. Any Christian who studies the Word should be able to see through this kind of stuff immediately. Not that difficult to discern. Kind of like a $3 bill. I highly recommend this resource for believers who are well versed in the scriptures and have a heart minister the truth of the Word of God to the people knocking on their doors. Remember: it's not about winning an argument, its about showing the love of God to sincere, yet lost people. Sow the truth, don't look for immediate doorstep conversions. The Lord will take care of the harvest, you just make sure you sow the seeds. If there are any Jehovah's Witnesses who have made it this far into my review, I applaud you. Keep seeking the truth. Let the Bible be the ultimate revelation of God to you, not some man, woman, or organizations "teachings". He's real, He loves you, and He's made provisions for you that others are trying to keep you from understanding, receiving, and enjoying here and now. This is a great resource for Christians to use when the Witnesses come to their door. Thank you and may God bless the readers of this review. Have a great day!

It is a wonderful Volume that presents a fairer grasp and understanding of the fundamental principles behind the theological and Ecclesiastical approaches taken by the Jehovah's Witnesses throughout the world. It is useful to me in pointing out undeniable contradiction within this movement that serves me well in confronting and pulling down strongholds of false doctrines that serve to undermine the sacred, enshrined, inspired and true beliefs of God's most holy and divine word, the Bible.

In a period, that everybody is blinded by the promises of political, economical and religious leaders, a little group of bible examiners take their stand against godliness and hold firm in announcing a new kind of gouvernment, the one all the creation is waiting for; but now that the time has come, they show their thru face and reject the king and his kingdom, and they are even ready to kill his mesengers
