This review is from: Studies in the Theory of International Trade (Hardcover)
Beyond its somewhat plain title, Jacob Viner's "Studies in the Theory of International Trade", offers a rich content in economic history and in the history of economic thought. Particularly well focused are the three chapters on the monetary debates between 1797 and 1844. The reader is guided through the economic scenario and into the minds of the differnet characters that took part in the debates. The parliamentary sessions come to life through well documented material and plenty of primary references that allow for further study. The reasoning is suppported by sound and deep economic theory. On the down side, the level of discussion makes the book inaccessible to the non-specialist, while the language is somewhat complicated.
